Punitive corporal punishment is barbaric. A swat to get their attention and establish authority is, IMO, acceptable.

Getting your child addicted to heroin as punishment for bad behavior is pretty low.
"Spanking" is the word. "Smacking" has a too-broad application. I believe that an occasional spanking that leaves no physical marks is okay. I think anything beyond this is abusive.

A VERY LIGHT spanking is okay for very young kids.. the kind that really doesn't hurt and would be akin to playing just to demonstrate your displeasure but anything more will leave scars-mental scars that I liken to breaking a horse. Broken people rarely reach their potential in life. (IMO)
