WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT?

This is a serious question. Keeping weight off is critical if you are to have a long, healthy life. So, I'm sure many here at B&W have weight loss and weight maintenance strategies that would help the rest of us. How do you lose weight, and how do you keep it off?

I lose weight by dieting
I lose weight by exercise
I lose weight by both exercise and dieting
I can't gain weight, so it isn't a problem
I have a special way (see below)
Poop, poop, poop your way to a new you!
Liposuction & stomach clamp
Eat healthy and exercise all in moderation

I eat what I want but I watch my portions. I also get plenty of exercise. I'm at the gym 5-7 days a week. I don't believe in diets because I don't think people can stick to them long term.

Get a good digital bathroom scale (Salter or Tanita are good) that reads in tenths and put it in your kitchen. I'm sure you'll be able to formulate something...

I lost ten pounds easily by ... eating a large breakfast ... walking for 15 minutes on my *first* break ... restricting my fruit intake to the first half of the day ... and finally by not eating within three hours of bedtime.I ate the same amount of food or possibly even more , lowered carb intake somewhat,with my diet consisting mostly of veggies , meat , fruit,carbs(bread,cereal ... ) ... in that order.Essentially this had the effect of ramping up my metabolism and burning off calories even as I sat on my duff at work.

I eat over 3000 calories a day so don't ask me lol.

And believe me I do not do enough work to burn them up so where do they go?

As with all vices, moderation!

People can easily loose weight without added exercise... but without it... if you were shaped like a pear at 300 pounds, you will be shaped like a pear at 180. Healthy doesn't mean having to look perfect.

I am disciplined.

Otherwise, I would just swallow a tapeworm and live large. wink

I follow Paul McKennas 4 rules.

1. Only eat when you are hungry.
2. Eat slowly.
3. As soon as you are full STOP eating.
4. Ignore all food fads and eat whatever you want.

It works for me anyway.

Eating healthy and exercising in mod4eration is a good maintenance regimen, but it has to be kicked up above4 'moderate' for actual weight loss, in my experience.

* Portion control: The average american portion is 2x - 3x what we really need.

* Avoid processed foods. If it comes in a box it undoubtedly has more chemicals and perservatives than nutrients. Also, processed carbohydrates (white flour , white rice) should be cut WAY down.

* Severely limit junk food: Anything with way more calories than nutrients -- Soft drinks, candy, most snacks (especially if they come in a cellophane bag). You don't have to cut them out completely,m if you have favorites, but having ONE every 3 to 6 months comes close.

* Increase fiber.

* Increase vegetables & fruit; decrease meat.

* Decrease alcohol (sob!)

Also tackle physical chores with relish(housework,yardwork) and don't go back for seconds at mealtime, cut back on between meal snacks.

I lost 40 pounds in a month when I was 19 - running and cycling a lot and eating very littly.

Sadly, since then I put all of those 40 pounds back on and then another 200 pounds on top of that (all on top of being just under ideal weight for a medium to heavy build 6'4" man). You work it out....

I eat healthily and sensibly but have a major drink problem (up to two pints of spirits a day plus up to two bottles of wine) and take anti-depressants that cause massive weight gain.

Yeah, I know. Fat bastard. I hate myself, wanna die....
