WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON ILLEGAL ALIENS?

[+] ballot by skylab
created Sun Sep 24, 06

If I was a native American, i'd complain about foreigners coming here, taking over, speaking the wrong language, and failing to assimilate.

They're illegal
They're desperate human beings
They're taking our jobs away
They're doing work Americans refuse to do
They're increasing the population
They prevent the problems caused by negative population growth
Take a trip to a California emergency room, then offer an opinion.
They're all part of Smokescreen v2.0

I just don't want them to kidnap me and perform an anal probe -- oh wait, those are extraterrestrial aliens! IC_lmao

On a serious note, I can't choose; everything you have listed has validity.

Anyone who has come to USA legally, gone through the process and met requirements to become a citizen is being slapped in their face by every illegal person settling here. Yesterday, an illegal 'immigrant' shot and killed a police officer (shot him in the back of the head) who had pulled him over for going 70 mph in a 30 mph zone. It happened in Houston, where much of the crime increase is directly connected to the illegal 'immigrants'.
I am a Naturalized Citizen of USA; my husband is a born citizen of USA.

If you are a born citizen of USA, you should be outraged! Why aren't you?

Interesting comment, LCB. That's one thing about the situation that ENRAGES me. But is it their fault or ours? We need to take care of our own tax paying citizens before extending largesse to others, IMO.

There are two sides to illegals... Those who acclimate to their new society and those who become dependent.

I work with a couple of dozen Eastern Europeans... mostly Polish and Czech. Some have been here 4 months, some 4 years. They're amazing, always willing and wanting to learn. They all speak English, at different levels, but assist one another in the learning process. They always strive for the better job and never settle with entry level. They frown upon government assistance and none of them utilize any social services. They are polite, friendly and always considerate and appreciative for what they have...

Then there was that time when I worked in S. California for 3 years... don't even get me started.

This entire issue (stop me if you've heard this before) is nothing more than a huge blind, to make all of us take our eyes off the ball. Right now, we need to be paying attention to a government that gives not one tinker's dam about the financial security, health and welfare of its citizens. As for those illegals? As long as Big Business knows that there's a pool of cheap labor within reach, they'll bend, break or forge any laws necessary to get them here.
by Truthseeker013 on Sun Sep 24, 06 11:36am [+]

Build a truly secure border, allow employers to check identities through the current social security/felony system, fine employers heavily and jail them if they continue to hire illegals, offer bus tickets and some help to all illegals and give them 90 days to leave the country. Jail and then deport those who do not comply, and deny all but emergency treatment to illegal aliens. Revise the policy that allows babies born in America to aliens to become U.S. citizens.
Consider amnesty only for those illegals who have been here for at least 7 years with a good record.

The emergency room crisis exists in some other states, too. It would be wonderful if USA could take care of every soul on Planet Earth, wouldn't it? We cannot. We are close to 'busted' now, where crime, taxes, health care and education presents.

I see two main factors: money, and people. These factors help form the basis of the two opposing points of view we see reflected in our government.
From a purely financial standpoint, it's no good that we have 12 million people here who don't pay taxes. From a humanistic standpoint, these people migrate here to make a better life for themselves and their families; one they simply cannot achieve in Mexico or other parts of Central and South America.

No matter how you feel about those that are living here in violation of the law, you have to admit there's no easy solution to this problem. If you support deportation, how on earth are you going to round up 12 million people? If you support amnesty, how on earth are you going to document said number of people? (Obviously there are more ways of looking at the situation than these two. I'm just generalizing.)

If there was a way to put these people through the system, I'd support it. They would have to learn to speak english and pass other standard citizenship requirements; no one convicted of a crime would be permitted to stay; they would be documented. Is that fair to other legal immigrants? No. If you wanted to balance things out a bit, you could levy some sort of fine. You could even put them all on "probation" for X number of years. At the same time we'd increase our border security in order to stem the flow.

Establish a 200 yard wide zone along the border, and on U.S. territory of course. Man the border with troops. Anyone who strays into that zone is shot on sight.

I would appear that the majority are for rounding up the illegal immigrant or somehow absorb them legally.

OK, lets deal with the first point, I assume there is some plan in place to replace these people when it comes to the backbreaking work they do?

I cannot see Mr Average American lining up to take the jobs. There would be a knock on effect, the small businesses and farms the right are so ready to support would go under, as there would noone to work the fields or the other menial jobs done by these exploited people.

Then there is the question of those people born to illegal immigrants, so in a sense we should punish the innocent as well as the guilty, as a child does not choose where it is born.

Now onto the second point, somehow absorbing them into the system. That would mean they would have all the rights afforded to US citizens, including social security, healthcae (such as it is) the right to claim the minimum wage and to demand health and safety regulations be put in place.

We of course should bring the full force of the law on those who would willingly exploit these people, but the political will isnt there, and the only time this subject appears, is when election time is near and immigration (or the RACE CARD as its known in the UK) is a good vote winner.

It also deflects other problems the administration is dealing with, an unwinable war on two fronts and possibly another conflict with another.

Its all very well say that there should be a tighter border and X amount of money and manpower be spent on it, but given the huge deficit the US has at the moment, is it feasible?

So what is the solution? Well perhaps we should realise that immigration to richer countries by poorer ones is inevitable and try and find a way of doing a little from column A and a little from column B.

The carte blanche 'kick em out' brigade, really dont know the financial crippling to the US economy such a policy would bring and the 'lets assimilate them' lobby haven't considered the cost and consequences of that option.

"If I was a native American, i'd complain about foreigners coming here, taking over, speaking the wrong language, and failing to assimilate."

Well, I am. So you all go home!

I think compassion should come first but an unrestrained flow of illegals puts a strain on the system. A better way to allow people to immigrate is essential. America's diversity is what makes it great.

America is becoming infested with less than
desirables.. The end result may be undesirable contamination and corruption..
