It's estimated by some that 40 is the maximum number of close friends that ANYONE could POSSIBLY have. I assume he/she would be way out on the end of the bell curve for gregarious behavior. I also read that an incredibly large number of folks today (in the US, anyway) don't consider themselves to have ANY close friends. I find that hard to believe; and, it's really sad if it's true.
