This came up in an reply comment I made to a respected user on another recent ballot. It's estimated by some that 40 is the maximum number of close friends that ANYONE could POSSIBLY have. I assume he/she would be way out on the end of the bell curve for gregarious behavior.
I also read that an incredibly large number of folks today (in the US, anyway) don't consider themselves to have ANY close friends. I find that hard to believe; and, it's really sad if it's true.

I've prob got close to that, maybe more. I have about 18 or so close friends who I grew up with from school. We still meet regularly for card games, nights out etc. I've got a lot more who I consider friends but not as close as the other guys.

I have several people (6 or 8) that I enjoy being around. I have ONE (1) true friend. Friendship, like love is not easily found and it is taken to lightly by most. My true friend would lay down his life for me.

HA, that's all the close friends i have...and my hubby has one best friend now that we kind of adopted but he's the one with all the friends, he has about 40 close friends, EVERYONE likes him, i mean he strikes up conversations with everyone, anywhere. He's really outgoing, i'm more anti-social
