SHOULD WHITE PEOPLE BE REFERED TO AS EUROPEAN AMERICANS?

I say this because I'm tired of having to refer to black people as African Americans even though their families are firmly rooted in American society, its just too long and tedious. Sure it may be the sign of proper etiquette, but who cares. Now should whites be refered to as European Americans to balance everything out or should we say black and white or asian for short?

I would prefer to say black, for short, but sometimes it's the blacks that insist on being called african american. What is the proper term to use these days?

No they should be even more specific like say- Italian American or Irish American. that way when Asians get it wrong we could put a guilt trip on them :)

I have Canadian friends living in the US. I wonder if they prefer to be called Canadian-Americans (I doubt it).
