HAS BUSH'S "BOMB AND BRIBE" FOREIGN POLICY WORKED WELL?

The two main pillars of the Bush foreign policy seem to be bribery and the threat of force (or actual force). This has been shown well by the Bush approach to Pakistan: Either do what we say or we'll bomb you back to the Stone Age followed by hundreds of millions in payoffs for cooperating in the so-called "War on Terror."

Another example would be Bush's bribes to the Coalition "partners" and the threats of force, and the use force, in the handling of Iraq and Iran.

The outcome, so far, has been that thousands of Americans have died, tens of thosands of have been wounded, hundreds of billions have been spent, world Islamic terrorism is on the increase, and the U.S. is more hated now than ever before.

In the case of Pakistan, a nation that could easily turn to Islamic fundamentalism has a thriving nuke program that could be turned against the West, the head of the Pakistan nuclear program sold nuke technology to Iran, North Korea, and Libya and is still a free man, the Taliban operates freely in the provinces adjoining Afghanistan, and is growing in strength and working toward destabilizing Afghanistan and turning that country to civil war, and Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose there.

So is Bush's "Bomb and Bribe" foreign policy a success?

Yes, things couldn't be better. A foreign policy based on gangster movies is a great idea
No, the litany of Bush failures shows that this approach is not a success

Bribery is a time-honored fabric of our national tapestry. Bombing is similarly familiar in our relations with recalcitrant enemies. Putting them together is a match made in political heaven. Do they work? Not always, but from the political mindset, it's always worth a try.
It is nonetheless immoral and sick.
