I plan to have children at some point. I am uneasy about any form of sex education before high school. I do not object to having alternative lifestyles presented as part of a curriculum, but I do think it needs to be taught along with the difficulties of gay parenting.

if they are showing two men or women with children (and not fornicating on screen or any thing like that) why would it be not okay for any age?

I think adults make way too much issue of these things. kids couldn't care less.

so johnny lives with two dads - big deal - some kids family lives are a lot more peculiar than that. I did not understand this question to imply there would be any discussion of the parents' sexual activities, only that the child might be portrayed being brought up by two adults of the same gender.

I really have no strong opinion one way or the other about whether it should be pictorialized in the books. But, I do have some strong feelings about the topic of classroom environments and how my kids are treated there. Parents talk with their kids as far as values are concerned; and, the kid is probably going to adopt much of the same perspective as Mom and Dad; but, not all. The parents should simply know what IS being presented. That way, they can address it when the kid comes home. I will qualify however, that this can create havoc in a heterogenous classroom where kids come from different value structures. The kid whose parents have taught him/her a different view of sexuality than the PC crowd pushes will be discriminated against; and, it works the other way when a kid from a PC family goes to school in a more conservative community. We shouldn't make our kids a battle ground; but, too often we do. That's the MOST shameful part.
