can they still say they are not racist?

I was watching a talk show this week and a lady swore up and down that she was not racist, but she didn’t approve of interracial relationships.

So is that possible, can you be against but not be racist?

Not Possible
Yes, is possible
you can say you're not racists but to an extent we all are. Aren't we.

COMMENTS:
The Jerry Springer one?

Yes, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're racist, because maybe they fear that the child won't be able to fit in to either culture. Moreover, if everyone intermixes, because brown and black eyes and hair are dominant, if everyone intermixes, red and blond hair will go 'extinct.' Does that make any sense, what I just said?

Well, I wouldn't take seriously anything someone said on Jerry Springer. The guests on there are pretty much the dullest tools in the shed.

For the most part it usually is racially motivated, however with that said it doesnt have to be.

If they weren't a racist, it wouldn't make any difference.

Back when I was nineteen, I almost married a Jewish woman. My mother *really* didn't like that, but she's never struck me as racist.

I know several people who think it's wrong to have an interracial relationship, yet they have many good friends that are of other races. Are they hypocrites? Not necessarily.
My mom, who is very religious, says it's wrong because the Bible and her "old school" culture says so. She has good friends in her church who are of different races and also believe the same way.
As for myself, I see interracial relationships everyday. How can you condemn it if the two people are in love and are happy together?

I think some people are so timid and sheltered that they are not comfortable with people who are slightly different than they are.

They are called amish.

but if they were on jerry springer, whether they were racist or not, I don't have much respect for them to begin with.

Personally, if someone's smitten with me I wouldn't care what skin color, size, hair color, or any other outward appearance or disabiliities.

Heck I would even be flattered if it was a guy (although it never happened to me personallu), though I would have to decline.

Only if you are smitten with the person involved...then you would be against that person and anybody else...I believe love is blind...OR, you worry what others would think, say, or act to the point of not following your heart.

I think some of the reasoning may be religious based too. My grandmother used to ask, "Why would you take two beautiful things that God created and mixed them up? Aren't the races we have now good enough?"
by Grumpy_Person on Fri Sep 29, 06 11:21pm [+]

I know, associating anything with Jerry Springer Show kind of loses it's credibility, but I thought it was an interesting question, I never thought it would be possible, but some of your comments show it could be possible.

Yes, it's possible that they think interracial relationships won't really work out because of cultural differences.
