"Yes. We invaded afghanistan and they have absolutely nothing of value." - That is a very interesting point.
aya- I believe the USA claimed to have invaded Afghanistan, not because it lacked democracy (there are plenty of nations around the world that lack democracy which the US is not interested in invading), but rather that it was a state-sponsor of terrorism.
^Which Iran also is.
As for Afghanistan, that invastion was in response to 9/11. Now, however, with the Taliban retaking the country, the U.S. is in the process of reducing its forces and handing responsibility over to NATO. Anyway, the U.S. never had enough troops there to take full control of the country or to find Osama Bin Laden. The Afghan government has complained often about the wishy-washy U.S. commitment. And the U.S. didn't invade Afghanistan unilaterally. Meanwhile, there is talk of increasing troop numbers in Iraq, which the U.S. invaded unilaterally, and with significantly more forces than they sent to Afghanistan. And now plans are being drawn up for invading Iran. It's all about oil, folks.
If we invaded Iraq for their oil, there's some people in Washington that seriously need to take some courses on profit management.
Aya: we invaded because they were blatantly aiding terrorists and harboring them within their borders.
Bush was never serious about the war in Afghanistan, which is why the Taliban is beginning to retake the country.
