Plus nobody wanted to be labeled as soft on the terrorists or unpatriotic.
I think impeachment would be a good possibility if the Democrats had a significant enough majority in both houses to get the job done.
Bush is the worst president the U.S. has ever had. He has become a danger to the republic. In a just world he would have been impeached long ago. Of course, in a just world, Bush never would have been president in the first place.
And, if Bush was impeached, I think a lot of Republicans would breathe a secret sigh of relief.

And by the time the Democrats obtain the necessary votes to make the impeachment articles stick, they'll be in power, and too giddy with that to mind.

Nothing has been done by the Bush administration that meets the necessary criteria for commencing impeachment procedings. False accusation and inuendo certainly does not beget impeachment either.
