sure they shun modern technology, and drive horse buggies, and wear silly outfits.

but then ....

"As we were standing next to the body of this 13-year-old girl, the grandfather was tutoring the young boys, he was making a point, just saying to the family, 'We must not think evil of this man,'" the Rev. Robert Schenck told CNN.

"It was one of the most touching things I have seen in 25 years of Christian ministry."

it's amazing that some people actually practice what they preach.

Great folks. I know many and my family and I visit them regularly.
They do think we "English" are a bit strange because we only have three kids. IC_tune

I'd like to give a little shout-out to Levi, Roy, Fannie, Yost and Emmanuel.
Wassup, dawgs?

(I don't think they'll be reading this.)

I respect them. They appear to lead such simple lives, but yet probably most of us wouldn't even be able to begin keeping up with them as far as their daily work and chores go. Not to mention their values or honesty.

'Course having said that, some of them do use modern conveniences. Life in the 21st century is slowly catching up with them and some feel they have to use such to be able to maintain a living and feed their families. I've even seen them drive up to ATM machines in their horse and buggy.

When I heard about this, the first words I used to describe the shooter were, "evil bastard". (Pardon my Latin, please.) Anone who can forgive in the face of such is, by default, a better human being than I'll ever be.

Beelz, you never know. They might have an illegal WiFi hookup in the barn...

I lived around the Amish in Ohio for about 35 years. They are honest, peace loving, hard working, faithful people. It doesn't surprise me that they have forgiven the murderer of their children. I only wish I was strong enough to 'live my faith' as they do.

They're a little strange, but they keep to their own code of ethics, don't bother anyone else, don't ask for handouts and seem to be genuinely decent people.

Whether you agree with their doctrines or practices, you have to respect the Amish for "walking the talk" of their convictions. We could use more of that in all faiths.

never met any "amish" so to speak, but I grew up w/ many mennonites. Awesome people! Hardworking, self-sufficient, faithful, the cream of the Deutsch anababtist crop! God bless them, and help them continue to walk the talk of their gentle, honest faith. Along with Soc. of Friends, the best christianity has to offer.Peace to them.
