"Sully?" lol Haven't you ever been curious how an apparently perfectly sweet lady gets hooked up with a crazy, stupid man? I guess I understand the initial attraction, but what keeps it going? I think in order for a marriage to keep going, both partners must have much in common. So, what's wrong with Laura?

Well, she married George W. Bush when he owned an oil-drilling company, and not George W. Bush the President of the United States or even the Governor of Texas. I'm sure she's stuck with George Jr. for a number of reasons -- e.g. traditionalism, religion, and power.
She certainly wouldn't want to divorce him now, though, as that would only show weakness to our enemies.

I've seen many Southern women stay with men who batter them like KFC chicken. Laura's lingering- no surprise to me.

sometimes it's difficult to get out of a bad marriage - i would think it's particularly difficult if he's the president of the USA. Think of the bad press! They'd probably assasinate her before they'd let her get away with divorcing him. Then again maybe she actually likes him?
Because she was 31 and a single Librarian living in Western Texas... the quintessential 'Old Maid', for those parts!
