I do think that the "ignore" function is a restriction of free speech and discussion, which, as I understand it, is the purpose of B&W. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, and don't play with scissors, much less run with them. lol
I don't think it's a restriction of free speech. Not when it's used to ignore abusive users rather than ignore ideas and opinions. Which I think (but could be wrong) is it's intent of the majority of sites that have such a feature.
The "restriction of free speech" excuse is something that I think just about every webmaster in existence has heard when they attempt to lay down rules to keep their site from becomming a playground for the easily entertained. And I've seen alot of sites turn to sh*t and brought down by childish users and abusers because no one wanted to 'restrict free speech'. Frankly, this is LCD's site and not a government institution. He has the right to restrict and allow what ever he wants. The first amendment doesnt apply here. It's his 'house' and we're guests.
I don't use the ignore feature myself. But I can understand those who do. Maybe some of the adults here get tired of hearing the elementary school level insults that are thrown around. I mean, ya gotta admit, when personal insults are thrown around it really degrades the seriousness and respectability of the debate. I don't think it's a matter of not being able to take the heat, it's a matter of not wanting to. Why sit around and let someone who you've shown mature respect for show disrespect to you? It takes away the enjoyment of debate.
Of course if this site was formed with the intent on encouraging childish debate and not serious discussion, I'll eat my words.

I never did like name calling or personal insults. That much being said, I don't ignore anybody.
I'm the same way, skylab. If someone starts tossing insults my way, I don't play into it. If I get tired of it, I just walk away. Why give someone your time and respect if they repeatedly show that they're not going to do the same. Let them talk to themselves. lol
