WHY DO FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIANS DEFEND ISRAEL?

[+] serious ballot by cranky
ACTIVE Tue Oct 10, 06 - Sun Jul 05, 09

Traditionally, rightwing Christians have been among the most rabid anti-Semites of all. Recently, however, many fundamentalist, Evangelical Christians have embraced Israel and have lobbied the U.S. government hard on Israel's behalf.

What is their primary motivation?

Because they love the Jews
Because Isreal fits into their "Endtimes" prophecies
Because they recognize that Israel has a right to exist
Because the land is specified as being 'favored' in the Bible
Because Israel controls the airwaves they broadcast their messages on
Because Israel controls the government that lets them not pay taxes
Because Israel controls the banks where they keep their money
Because God promised Abraham he would bless those who bless his people and curse those who curse his
Because it suits their neo-con agendas

COMMENTS:
Did it every cross you're mind cranky that fundamentalist christians support Israel simply because they feel the jewish people need a homeland and because it is the right thing to do?Heaven forbid those evil Christians ever do anything because it's the right thing to do.

That had crossed my mind, but frankly, I just don't believe it.

"Christian Zionism is a belief among some Christians that the return of the Jews to the Holy Land, and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, is in accordance with Biblical prophecy. This belief is commonly, though not exclusively, associated with a portion of evangelical Protestants, mainly in English-speaking countries outside Europe.

Christian Zionism, as a specifically theological belief, does not necessarily entail sympathy for the Jews as a nation or for Judaism as a religion. (Wikipedia)

I believe that many of them are unquestioningly in support of "Israel," but, without other Enemies to distract them (e.g., Muslims), they'd harbor no love for Jews.

Foremost in the minds of American Christians (and don't forget that over 80 percent of Americans claim to be Christians) is the connection in the Bible between the Jews (God's "Chosen People") and Christianity. Jesus, after all, was a Jew, and for an American Christian to be anti-semetic is almost to be anti-God.

^True. I don't always agree with fundamentalists, but on this issue they really do support Israel's right to exist.

I definitely DON'T think it's because the Jewish people control everything.

No second coming without the Jews in Israel.

Total misunderstanding of the term Christian Fundamentalist here. However, this is a common mistake.

Christian fundamentalists are peaceful. The more fundamentalist Christians are the more peaceful and passive they are. For example, the Amish, Mennonites, Hutterites, Jehovah Witnesses, and Quakers to name a few. These groups are the closest one can become to understanding and following the Christian doctrine and its tenets completely.

In contrast to this, the more fundamentalist Muslims are the more dangerous they are. The truer a Muslim is to his faith the more militant he becomes.

I believe it is something silly to do with the Book of Revelations- about the end of the world and such.

And when the world ends, non-beleivers- (Jews included?) are to be punished.

It hardly seems that it is out of sympathy for Jews.

'The End is at hand!' Give them a hand! 'The Jews are God's (the Jewish God's) ('Yahweh's') people', the land of Israel 'belongs' to the Jews, the 'Final Battle' is going to occur in Israel 'soon', the Jews must be 'saved', too!
This is all 'biblical' stuff, hardly 'reliable' but highly imaginative..!

they can't wait for the world to end, that's what they are taught.
