I see no reason why they should be pressured to do so if they feel uncomfortable with it.
I would like all women to show me their boobs when talking to me. no? well just as silly for JS to demand it then. does he have same policy for guys in hats, sunglasses, or beards? I only talk to clean shaven men.

Should women from the West who are visiting Muslim countries wear them? It's the choice of the culture. I don't like it, but it's not my culture to knock. Jack Straw. Fits him to a T, describing the contents of his head...
(rubbing freshly-shaven chin, heaving sigh of relief, wondering if there's extra karma in it?)
Do we ask Sikhs to remove their turbans and Jews to remove their skull caps? Why do we have to have a hegomonised culture, should we all wear grey and ban all music that has te influence of satan too?
not unless they shave their Mustaches

Muslim women chose to live in a civilised western society and should adapt to and respect our culture and values. I think they should remove their veils when talking to someone just as ignorant, arrogant bigheads should remove their caps and sunglasses in which i think it is rude.
They can dress however they want. I would ask muslim men to please stop beating and murdering their female family members though, in accordance with our laws. That'd be a good start.
Yes. If the cultural norm of their new host country finds covering of the face especially during conversations to be insulting, they should remove them. If you go to one of their country's, women are expected to cover their hair and face. How is that okay
oh please - since when is it a cultural norm in this country (USA) to be insulted when someone covers their face during a conversation. sounds like a personal problem - not a cultural norm. I agree with herzog - who cares what they wear - if we want muslims to change their customs - why don't we start with the one that involves abusing their women.
" I would ask muslim men to please stop beating and murdering their female family members though" I would ask all texans to stop molesting their daughters and drive drunk on Friday nights and plowing into ditches.... sounds about as rediculous, doesn't it?

^ So you don't have a problem with so called honor killings?

I disagree. I don't think Muslim women should have to. They should be free to wear it, and free to not wear it. But the last thing we need is fashion police (far too leftist). As for Jack Straw? I see nothing wrong with what he said. He made a request and not a demand.
"I would ask muslim men to please stop beating and murdering their female family members though, in accordance with our laws." It would be fair, then to be able to ask the same thing of Texans.
Still, if this catches on, the next thing you know, all men visiting the office of Republican Congressmen will be required to pull down their pants and bend over.
Isnt freedom of choice one of the tenets of western society
"Do we ask Sikhs to remove their turbans and Jews to remove their Skull Caps?" Turbans and Skullcaps don't actually hide people's faces.
well personally - i think it's FAIR to ask anyone to quit abusing their fellow human beings. whether it's reasonable to expect them to comply is another matter. all the same - if we're going to make demands on other cultures to change - let's at least set some priorities. Some things are worth working on changing, others aren't, and yeah i know everyone's opinion of what's worth changing can differ. But some things are clearly wrong - no matter what your culture claims and sometimes one needs to ditch the pc crap and have the backbone to say so.
So HErzog, I guess that's a no, eh?

But it is a cultural thing linked to their faith. As for muslim women getting beaten, it is not permitted in Islamic law to do that and women have many rights set down in the Koran. The bible on the other hand is full of anti-women quotes.
