because it presents mature concepts to young people. and religious people believe reality damages children's "innocence"
neothe1, I feel it's rather ironic that they would condemn Harry Potter books for damaging a child's innocence. Then turn around the next day and give the same child a holy bible which is filled up with sex, murder, hate, destruction, terrorism, rape, torture, genocide, sadism, infintcide, sexism, lies, evil and just about any other mature subject matter.
They want kids to read "My Pet Goat," instead.
The latest batch of sstupidity chose to spring up about twenty miles from my doorstep, in Gwinnett County, Jawja. The mother who's petitioning to have the series removed from the library system *admits* that she's *never read any of them*, but it's still got to go.
Once more, if anyone *is* or *knows of* any living relatives of General Sherman, *please* forward them to me. There's work yet to be done here...

they give it to them, but they don't read it. none of them read it. they're told by others which parts they can use to justify their beliefs, and they ignore the rest.

I know of some Fundamentalists that actually like the Potter books.
