^^^ Totally agree - this psycho also denied the whole world the pleasure of hearing the material this legendary musician would have produced had he lived. Lennon would have been the most vocal activist in the world against American foreign policy and what is being perpetrated against the people of Iraq too, 650,000 Iraqi men women and children have also had their lives cut short by foreign invaders from half a world away. Who do we have instead taking the lead for a new generation?? A clown from Dublin called Bozo, sorry Bono, with a band named after a US spy plane.
He should be treated precisely as any person convicted of murder in the State of New York. No better, No worse.
What makes Lennon so special? Chapman should be assessed to see if parole is appropriate. If it is they should free him. If not, they should keep him incarcerated. The fact he killed Lennon is irrelevant.
^ I have to agree. Sure he was famous and gave a lot to people in the form of music and ideas, but Lennon was no more human than any other murder victim. And it's an insult to the other murder victims who don't get the coverage when their killers are up for parole. He was no better and no worse than anyone else. To put him on that pedestal would make him elite, which I find funny because alot of his followers preached against that very same elitist philosophy.
If he was released I don't think he'd last long. I'm sure there are still some very passionate Lennon fans out there wanting revenge.
What margaret said. Even though our loss is very great, the focus of the State's response should be: 1. Ensuring public safety (removing dangers) 2. Rehabilitation/ treatment, if possible From the viewpoint of the State's response, revenge should not be the focus -- even when the loss is felt deeply. That being said -- people who are dangers should not be permitted freedom to prey on others.
What makes Lennon so special? (shall I tell him or will you folks? -Ken) by wideheadofknowledge -(who else?) Ever hear of life without possibility of parole? Anyway - either way he's damned if he does get freed and damned if he doesn't - the former outcome would almost certainly see him begin serving a very short death sentence before true justice in the eyes of many is served, they'll be queueing round the block to get their hands on him.
John Lennon takes six bullets in the chest, Yoko Ono was standing right next to him and not one f*cking bullet! ~Denis Leary He deserves the Chair for missing Yoko-.
You cant allow the relative "importance" or "worth" of the murdered party to affect the severity of punishment of the murderer, unless you want to go down the slippery slope of syaing that some are "more equal than others" under the eyes of the law.
Elvis, I disagree, she is much maligned, but the happiest years of his life were with and because of Yoko, and she inspired some of his greatest solo work. Give her a break everyone!
"What makes Lennon so special? " who said he was so special? he went up to a guy, asked for a favor of an autograph. guy was so nice to sign for him, as well as let him take a pix, then as a thank you, he gets bullets lodged into his heart. that's why he should rot in jail.

What do Ethiopians and Yoko Ono have in common? They both live off dead Beatles.
^^^That's plain nasty, she came and comes from a very wealthy background (Japanese royalty I believe) and would have wanted for nothing in life whether or not John Lennon had pursued her. Anyway to hate her is to hate a part of John Lennon, he loved her, what greater a seal of approval do you need? You'd think the man couldn't think for himself! Mother hens telling him how to live his life! I love Yoko, she is the nearest thing we have to John in the world today, his overwhelming love for her is eternal.
"What makes Lennon so special? " who said he was so special? I mean what makes this case in particular any different. If Lennon had been a no one and had been mercilessly gunned down we wouldn't even be discussing it. I actually agree with the question "why would you ever release someone who have killed another human being?" but it's not that simple.
You're missing the whole point as usual.
And what's the point? That Chapman "denied the whole world the pleasure of hearing the material this legendary musician would have produced had he lived"? Is that your point? According to the law Chapman should be assessed to see if he is fit for parole or not. What point are you trying to make? That people who kill your favorite pop stars need to be punished more than other killers?
A million Beatles fans will dance on his grave
