You know how fast I would get there? It would be like announcing giving away video games.

Why not? After all, college professors will work for free, the utility companies will donate water, sewer, lights, and gas, the textbook companies love to give it away, and
food should be donated, too. Seriously, a class or two might be free,but colleges and their staff, need money.
Not entirely. If it was totally free to everyone, you'd have people enrolling with no goal of ever getting and using the education given to them.
I know two people right now who's received grants to go to college absolutely free. But they sit at home now living off of government checks. And there's jobs all over the area that they could easily get, but have turned down.
Those diplomas are nothing but fancy wall ornaments that they can brag about. All paid for by tax payers.

Education is great and it would make for a more happier, better off country. But not everyone has that mentality. You can lead a horse to water...
Some countries do have free college education, I would suppose a test would be given, in today's society college education is necessary , of course staff need money, so do staff of public schools.
Or we could import our educated people from India or other countries or continue to outsource.
And of course would always be people who misuse , but can't throw the baby out with the bath water, it would be BENEATH US AS A SOCIETY

Yes, and they don't understand why we make people pay for it.
Maybe can't be necessarily free, but at the same time, perhaps countries can work to make education more affordable? LIke European countries make it way cheaper for stuedents to enrol and get degrees

An educated populace could provide more to its economy.
College shouldn't be free, but it's a fact that colleges overcharge. It drives me crazy when I here politicians going on and on about how students need more loans. More loans? Yeah, $100,000. in debt is a nice way to start out on you career. What the politicians need to do is demand that the colleges stop gouging the students.

That would mean you would be paying through higher taxes. The money has to come from somewhere.
I say yes. There are those, including myself who have grown up in poverty and dream to become something and couldn't do it,but becuase of monitary issues, got held back a few years. If school was free I think a lot of people would jump to the opportunity to reach for something bigger and better than what they have now.

it should be if a family does not have enough money to send a family member to college
