Ha ... serious wishful thinking in that list of rationales, but ...
Depending on a variety of factors, I do one of the following:
* Debate it, pointing out the problems in the presentation, as appropriate. There's no use arguing an opposing viewpoint until the initial logic or truthfulness errors are addressed.
* Ignore it: If I am tired and/or the ballot author is a known incorrigible. I'll sometimes put in a 2-cents worth on these, though, just so the fallacies are not accepted as truths merely because they were uncontested.
* Poke good- natured fun at the ballot author: If he/she is a serial abuser. 
Only if the ballot is presented in an honest and accurate manner is it worthwhile debating the actual substance of the question.
If the question is not honest/ accurate, it would be foolish to try to address it.
I can't believe you are such a petty prick. You create this ballot because of mine? What a shallow little twirp. You leave out that your ballot was total bullshit. You leave out that you alter facts, don't show sources and you take only one part of a very complex issue and try to turn that into the main issue. Face it dude, you try to get the response you want to soothe your own psyche and you'll do anything to get that response, including lie.

This is a good example of a ballot premise that should be challenged -- it assumes that the reasons a person would take exception to a ballot topic are failings in the readers' character, conveniently implying that the ballot author is pure like angels and innocent like children. It then asks what the reader should do to address the situation.
Here's an alternative to your ballot premise, herz: Ballot authors should try to be aware of their own biases and bend over backwards to put forth at least a semi-fair ballot.

IMO, anyone who posts a ballot should be willing to hear challenges to the framing and/or 'facts' and either ddefend the presentation or walk away with a little more insight on how to address ballots in the future.

Well, do what you do, Herzog, don't answer the ballot. There are ballots where you either don't directly answer or just ignore that make you feel uncomfortable.

The one based on a poll presented by the BBC that showed a great many indonesians supported terror was a direct copy and paste, the question was fair, and the answers were objective and open to addition. Did you answer it?
And yes, this is a direct question from myself, herzog, to you, cathexis, and I do expect an answer to it, no more diversions.

I answered the question in the ballot and I was honest that in my opinion the ballot was bogus. Like I said if you can't handle it then don't make ballots. Or at least don't make bullshit ballots that are more your personal opinions disguised as facts. You do realize that we all have the ability to read all of your ballots and comments right? Well thats what I did. If your ego wasn't so bone china fragile maybe you'd see that you're acting just like the way I described you. Keep whining about it because no one feels bad for you. Try being a man and face up to the fact that Im not the first person to challeng you and I won;t be the last. Its up to you how you react.
