WHICH OF THESE APPLES DO YOU LIKE THE MOST?

[+] ballot by Kiki

Apples are in season, and they are so yummy and healthy! Which of these do you like best? I'm hooked on the Honeycrisp but I like Granny Smith a lot too.

Braeburn - Sweet, tart and spicy. Braeburns are delicious eaten out of hand or used in pies, tarts or sauces. Their rich aromatic sweetness makes them a favorite sliced and served with a cheese board, dipped in creamy caramel or baked with cinnamon and maple syrup.

Fuji - Extra sweet and super crunchy. A cross between Red Delicious and Ralls Jane, Fujis are a crisp apple prized for their sweet perfume and firm texture. Try them baked into pies, crisps and crumbles and sliced for fruit and savory salads.

Gala - Crisp, sweet with a hint of spice. A cross between Cox's Orange Pippin and Golden Delicious, Galas are an aromatic, versatile apple developed in New Zealand. They are perfect as a lunch box treat or sliced in fruit or savory salads.

Golden Delicious - Tasty, all-purpose apple. Honey sweet with mellow apple flavor. Goldens are delicious as a snack, stuffed with granola and baked or sliced into fruit salads. They are particularly great for salads as their flesh doesn’t turn brown as quickly as other varieties of apples.

Granny Smith - Tart, juicy and firm-fleshed. Granny Smiths are the quintessential baking apple and every baker’s choice for the perfect apple pie. They hold their shape during baking, which makes them a great choice for baked apples too. And their tartness pairs well with cheese, including triple crème Brie, Jarlsberg and English Cheddar.

Gravenstein - Juicy and crisp with a sweet-tart flavor. One of the “oldest” apple varieties, Gravensteins are enjoyed around the world, especially in Russia, Italy, Germany and England. They are a summer apple and make delicious pies and slow-simmered sauces.

Honeycrisp - Sweet honeyed flavor with a hint of tartness. One of the newest varieties of apples, Honeycrisps add crunch and honeyed sweetness to salads. They are also delicious eaten out of hand or paired with McIntosh in pies, tarts, crisps and sauces. Often hard to find, this Minnesota-grown apple is gaining popularity with orchards across the country.

McIntosh - Very juicy, slightly tart with a delicate perfumed scent. The most aromatic of all apples, McIntosh are the quintessential apple favorite in New England. Their delicate flesh limits travel across the country, so consider yourself lucky if your state grows this prized pomme. McIntosh are best simmered into a sauce, eaten out of hand or added to pie as a thickening agent.

Voted : Gala
Right now, my favorite is Gala. Second is Red Delicious. Here in the southwest, we don't get all those interesting varieties you listed. Apples have a weird but cool effect on me. They make me more wired than a strong cup if coffee! This was a ballot I could really sink my teeth into.

Voted : Fuji
Fuji or Gala...which ever is sweeter. Red delicious apples are a sham, very sour and lacking flavour.

Not a big apple fan, unless they're fried.
