WE ARE BIASED, ADMITS A STAR OF FOX NEWS

[+] serious ballot by cranky
ACTIVE Wed Oct 25, 06 - Mon Jul 20, 09

The usually disciplined foot soldiers at Fox News have long maintained that their news organization is not biased in favor of conservatism. This charade is so important to Fox News that the company has actually sought to trademark the phrase "fair and balanced" (which is a bit like Richard Nixon trademarking the phrase "not a crook"). No fair-minded person actually believes that Fox News is unbiased, so pretending that it is calls for steely corporate resolve. On occasion, this vigilance pays off. Last year, for example, the Wall Street Journal actually ran a correction after its news pages described Fox News, accurately, as "a network sympathetic to the Bush cause and popular with Republicans." Getting one of this country's most prestigious newspapers to state that up is down and black is white is no small public-relations victory, and if we can't admire Fox News' candor, we can at least marvel at its ability to remain on message. Or rather, we could admire it, before Scott Norvell went and shot his big mouth off.

Norvell is London bureau chief for Fox News, and on May 20 he let the mask slip in, of all places, the Wall Street Journal. So far, the damage has been contained, because Norvell's comments appeared only in the Journal's European edition.

Here is what Norvell fessed up to in the May 20 Wall Street Journal Europe:

Even we at Fox News manage to get some lefties on the air occasionally, and often let them finish their sentences before we club them to death and feed the scraps to Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly.

Fox News is, after all, a private channel and our presenters are quite open about where they stand on particular stories. That's our appeal. People watch us because they know what they are getting.

Norvell never says the word "conservative" in describing "where stand on particular stories," or what Fox's viewers "know … they are getting." But in context, Norvell clearly is using the example of Fox News to argue that political bias is acceptable when it isn't subsidized by the public (as his op-ed's target, the leftish BBC, is), and when the bias is acknowledged. Norvell's little joke about clubbing lefties to death should satisfy even the most literal-minded that the bias Norvell describes is a conservative one. (Lord only knows where Norvell acquired the erroneous belief that Fox News is "honest" about its conservative slant; perhaps he's so used to Fox's protestations of objectivity being ignored that he literally forgot that they continue to be uttered.)

Are you shocked to find that there is a rightwing bias anywhere in the mainstream media?

Yes, this is very shocking, I had no idea there was any rightwing bias
It's shocking he admitted it, but the bias was obvious

I wonder why Tode1 hasn't commented on this

Tode1 has just put up a ballot attacking me personally, but, as usual, doesn't allow for any comments, and since we are on each other's ignore lists, I have no avenue to defend myself.

At first, he was spamming my ballots with idiotic choices and comments, then he started putting up ballots that allow for no comments or choices, so I put him on my ignore list. Then he started giving me negative karma for innocuous comments, so I put up a karma shield. Then he created an alias solely for the purpose of harrassing me, so LCD deleted it. Now he's put up one of his no choice/no comment ballots directing a personal attack against me.

Is Tode1 a stalker, yet?

Voted : It's shocking he admitted it, but the bias was obvious
I would say so, Sir Crank.
I love those personal attack ballots that don't allow for choices or comment... unlike this one.

Its quite obvious that the mainstream media is either centerist or right leaning, the often hollow protestations of the right that the media is a vast left wing conspiracy just amuses me no end.

I'm shocked. Actually, there was another former Fox journalist who said he voted for Bush but got fired for not being right wing enough.

Tode1 gave me bad karma when I said it was inappropriate for Tode1 to call cathexis "an ass." He said it was "sabotage" for me to say that.

Alright so Fox News is bias tell me something I don't know. Now cranky shouldn't CNN and MSNBC also admit that they are biased to the left?
by Corrupt on Thu Oct 26, 06 8:55am [+]

^To many conservatives, unbiased reporting IS biased to the left. The reason? Because any reporting that isn't biased toward the right, isn't promoting the right's agenda, so therefore it must be considered to have a left-leaning bias.

In other words, any journalism that isn't rightwing propaganda, must, by definition, be supporting the left.
by cranky on Thu Oct 26, 06 9:56am [+]

^Wrong cranky it is possible to be impartial and not take a side on political issues, if the empty suits on CNN and MSNBC would only report the facts without adding in their commentary or atleast try to get both sides of the argument then they would be unbiased. However the hacks at CNN like Wolf Blitzer can't resist adding their liberal view point into the news, even their words reflect their bias.Instead of calling a terrorist a terrorist they call him a "militant" or "insurgent".

Not to mention how they love to show Israeli as an aggressor when in reality Israeli only attacks in self defense.
by Corrupt on Thu Oct 26, 06 11:14am [+]

Corrupt:

Dropping 350,000 cluster bombs on civilian areas of Lebanon AFTER the cease fire has been agreed upon is not attacking in self defense.

And the fighters in Iraq are largely insurgents, rebels fighting to push out a foreign occupier. Just because someone pushes back against the oil colonialism of the Cheney/Bush Administration doesn't make them terrorists.
by cranky on Fri Oct 27, 06 7:33am [+]

^Yeah cranky and when those so called insurgents blow up Iraqi school children are they also fighting American imperialism then?I can't believe you justify the actions of these cut throats; they're killing our fellow citizens for crying out loud!

As for Israel, what was the reason why Israel dropped those C. Bombs on Lebanon cranky? It was because Hezbollah did not honor the cease fire and were still firing rockets into Israel. Thus Israel responded in self defense.
by Corrupt on Fri Oct 27, 06 2:22pm [+]

What do we then call our brave troops who have killed 100,000 civilians?

Heroes? Terrorists? Freedom Fighters?

You see how language can be twisted depending on your point of view?
