WHY IS THE OVERSIGHT OFFICE EXAMINING RECONSTRUCTION IN IRAQ BEING CLOSED?

[+] serious ballot by Mithrandir
created Fri Nov 03, 06

The Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction that acts as an auditor and an independent oversight venue will be closed down on Oct. 1, 2007. This provision was slipped into a military authorization bill, apparently at the last minute after content had already been approved. The office, led by a Republican lawyer, has in the past sent American occupation officials to jail on bribery and conspiracy charges, exposed very poor and unsafe construction work by Halliburton and Parsons, and discovered the loss of hundreds of thousands of weapons shipped by the military to Iraqi forces.

So why do you think this office is being shut down?

The office kept on embarrassing the administration
The voting public isn't interested in American waste and fraud in Iraq
It was annoying Halliburton and cutting into their profit margin
The office's tenure was always open-ended, so why the fuss when they just set a date?

Because it was the only entity that was actually providing any oversight into the incredible waste and corruption of our Tax Dollars being siphoned off and lining the pockets of contractors and congressmen.

The only republican in Washington who is actually doing something with integrity ... and he gets a pink slip.

Incompetents who screwed up Iraq ... they get the Medal of Freedom.

Sums up the Republican One-Party Rule of the past six years perfectly.

Bush and Cheney can't understand why anyone would be against corruption.

I'm glad everyone is waiting until they have all the facts to make a judgement call.

"I'm glad everyone is waiting until they have all the facts to make a judgement call."

The fact still remains, this clearly important office is being shutdown for no apparent reason. Is that not cause for some alarm?

himself: is it being shut down for gross incompetence, is a new office being set up to replace it, what are the facts?

Cath: you know, to most users it looks like you accepted this paraphrased article, with no source, at face value, not bothering to get any of the pertinent facts, or research it yourself, or question the source, or question the bias of the ballot maker, or any of the usual quality assurance measures that are typically applied.

But not to me, I can see the marvelous subletly in which you actually did rip the article apart and expose the exact, unbiased and cold truth, carefully slicing through to the heart of the matter, in a comment that to all appearances seemed to suggest you simply accepted this, no questions asked. But not all users are are keenly away of your subtleties as I am, so perhaps from now on you could be more blatant about such things?

But it seems this is yet another double standard.
