There are only 100 senators... How can it be 50/50, and the Democrats be ahead?

Actually, it's

49 Republicans

49 Democrats

1 Independent (who will probably vote with the Democrats) - Joe Lieberman

1 seat from Virginia, that the Democrats are leading, but is too close to call yet.
by xxxxxxxx on Wed Nov 08, 06 10:25am [+]

Voted : Proceed with criminal investigation of Halliburton/Cheney
this is HUGE. It'd bring shame on so many citizens if everything is found out.
by Jyl on Wed Nov 08, 06 10:28am [+]

Voted : Readdress the Patriot Act
remember that they are working for the people, and not the corporations and their cronies.

and give people their freedom once again!

1. Start proceedings to impeach Bush. Now. Until that wrong is addressed, no one will believe we've changed.

2. Address rampant Congressional corruption and lobbyist abuses.

3. Readdress the so-called Patriot Act.

4. Purge Capitol Hill of all Bush appointees and cronies who are unfit for their positions (EPA, CIA, Homeland Security, Treasury, etc.). If no tpossible, at a minimum, start exercising oversight.

5. Repeal the tax cuts to the rich. Initiate fiscal responsibility.

6. Bring pressure to bear to constructively deal with existing wars.

"1. Start proceedings to impeach Bush."

That is number one for you? Nice to know it is more important for you than health care for all, raising the minimum wage, genocide, homelessness. Sure cathexis. Go for the most pointless issue first. rolleyes

FF: Yes, I do support going for impeachment first. Why, you ask?

1. It demonstrates to the country that the US does not countenance attacks on its constitution and that no one is above the Law. Italso recognizes that deceit is not tolerated and should not be accepted as 'just politics.'

2. It demonstrates to the world that the US officially and completely rejects the unilateral hubris, aggression, and imperialism of the Bush Administration. We need that in order to have a chance to seriously heal the diplomatic damage the last six years have wrought.

3. It serves as a warning for those political opportunists who are still out there that there are repercussions for illegal and unethical actions.

So, yes FF ... I strongly believe that should be a first action and I hardly perceive it as 'pointless.'

Impeachment is not even an issue with this president. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. Stop your liberal dreaming and think of actual issues they could accomplish. Of the list above the one they could do is raising minimum wage. But I think raising mininum wage is a mistake. The Dems are going to accomplish jack squat.
