Voted : Yes, this is racist
you're right. it was like with colin powel. "the first black secretary of state." now with condoleeeeeeza, its "the first black woman secretary of state." i think they can stop that now since black, hispanics, asians, etc., are elected officials, heads of major coroporations, super stars, top athletes, religigious leaders, etc. personally i find it offensive to point out race like that. why does it matter if the person in question is black, white, or asian. it doesn't.
Not really racist, IMO, more just focusing on the wrong thing.
Bostonian: I agree that it is condescending, but isn't condescision based on race by definition "racism"?
Yes.
I don't think it is racist to note the race of a person who has accomplished something, throughout history the race or cultural background of great people have been acknowledge because it is part of the relevant facts. If it is racist to make a big deal about the race of great people then I think we need to erase any reference to race in history books;forget that Socrates was a Greek philosopher, that Richard the Lion Heart was an English King and that George Washington was an American President.History wouldn't make much sense if parts of the identities of great men were left out.
No, I think that's a ridiculous assertion. Minorities and women have been oppressed for centuries, simply acknowledging how far they've come is not racism. White males have always been teh dominant group, and still are.

Voted : Yes, this is racist
Yes. And, not needed.
Kev24: How is it different from, 'the first female Speaker of The House ?'
Constantly pointing out people's race of gender every time they achieve something is insulting and condescending. It's like some a-hole saying, "He's pretty good for a (fill in the blank)."
