HOW LONG WILL I LAST?

[+] ballot by LCD
created Thu Nov 16, 06

I've turned vegetarian.

last week, I pigged out on prime ribs, porterhouse and t-bones as well as countless burgers, and got a shock of my life when I checked my blood pressure.

so I've turned vegan. No meat, no eggs, no cheese, no milk.

I am taking bets on how long I am gonna last.

first 20 guesses only, closest wins 20 points.

I will start with 30 days

Pretty cool if you can stick with it. How long will you last? Hard to say.
by lowerclassbrats on Thu Nov 16, 06 5:32pm [+]

Not that long. You need to ease into it.

Heh heh, you are going to find out there are animal products in a LOT of things you like, and cheese is in a lot of stuff you like too :)
by jappy on Thu Nov 16, 06 6:30pm [+]

well I am not squimish about eating meat (as you can see in my description), I am just doing a cleansing cycle, much like a 50k miles tuneup.

last time, I succumbed to a triple cheeseburger at Wendys...

mmmmm.. cheeseburger.

You won't want a big mac, or a pepperoni pizza. You can do it.
by skylab on Thu Nov 16, 06 9:40pm [+]

There are a lot of options too LCD. Morningstar and Boc Curger make "burger crumbles" that works as well (and taste) like hamburger. They also make fake Steak strips and chicken strips, loads of other mock meat stuff.

It tastes good and you don't end up having all that fat, cholestrol and trans fat. They also have veggie burgers LCD. I would try and make it a point (if this is just a diet) to eat at least 3 vegetarian meals a week to be a little healthier.

* I am already there, been a vegetarian for awhile but I do eat cheese and eggs. Believe the term is Lacto Ovo vegetarian.

turning vegan is hard. you might want to ease into it. its better to plan out in stages what you'll cut out. a good friend of mine is a vegan and she can barely eat anything because almost all commerical foods have milk, eggs, gluton, stuff like that. she has to shop at a vegan store.

maybe start by cutting out only read meat and cut down on dairy first, then move onto the next stage and cut out sugar. a plan along those lines. also, please be careful because friends who turned vegan ended up getting sick because it was such a shock to the sytem to go such an extrme so suddenly.
by Kev24 on Fri Nov 17, 06 8:59am [+]

I'll go with 7 days. Turkey day is next week. IC_mojotu
by _Beelzebubba on Fri Nov 17, 06 9:00am [+]

Sure I will join you on a veggie diet. Then I can vomit it all up in my garden for fertilizer and also not have to do anything around the house for a few weeks lol.

I'M KEEPING MY MEAT!!! lol.
by fivenotes on Fri Nov 17, 06 10:02am [+]

^ No worries, no one is going to steal your meat away : P

so far so good. Feeling great and looking fab. first week is gone, so 5 and 7 day choices.. well you underestimated me!

I have cut all the veg oil too. I eat my salad with 100% natural applesauce as dressing.

it's great, you should try it.
by LCD on Sat Nov 18, 06 3:59pm [+]

yeah, I am planning to ease into veg oils in the second week, after the cleansing cycle.

Lots of Beans, rice, carrots and salary, etc.

plus lots of vitamins.
by LCD on Sat Nov 18, 06 4:02pm [+]

salary???

I meant celery.

oh man, am I experiencing brain death?

Wow! When you do something, you do it all the way, don't you? What will you eat for Thansgiving dinner?

You may have a better chance of sticking to it if you tapered off....eliminate red meat and pork first. That alone should improve your health substantially. You can also benefit from eliminating white flour, white rice (replace with whole grains) and increase your water intake.

LCD, since you are doing this for your health are you going to have regular exercise? Hmmmm?

"Wow! When you do something, you do it all the way, don't you? What will you eat for Thansgiving dinner?"

Tofu Turkey of course. MmmmmMAG_rofl

"Lots of Beans, rice, carrots and salary,"

Well a little of both couldn't hurt.

Celery gives ya fiber, and salary gives ya celery. Looks like a win/win deal to me.
by passiveson on Mon Nov 20, 06 7:41am [+]

Yeah, I carry around a liter bottle of water with me.

I try to walk about a mile a day, although due to the bum knee (accident) I haven't done much walking, though I do upper body work.

Last night I went out with friends to Mickey D's, and while they were scarfing down McRib Burgers and fries, I had a garden salad and water.

I figure if I can take that, I can take anything :)
by LCD on Mon Nov 20, 06 10:29am [+]

I'm impressed! Good for you!
by Exotique on Wed Nov 22, 06 4:16pm [+]

at 27 days, I had milk and a crab salad.

lost 15 lbs, I usually lose more, but I haven't been as active as I usually am due to injury.

so the closest one is runswithscissors, w/ 24 days.

thanks for playing!

I think you'll make at least 60 days. There are a lot of good vegetarian meals to be had...(though the longest I ever lasted was 3 days)
