DID THE POLICE GO TOO FAR WITH TAZING THIS STUDENT AT UCLA LIBRARY?

[+] ballot by Jyl
created Fri Nov 17, 06

Look for the news or the video of what happened- UCLA Police Taser Incident.

MY feelings are the kid was clearly acting like a silly brat and maybe deserved it the first time. But judging by how helpless he sounded and how upset the other students were the police should have dragged him out instead of repeatedly tazing him.

I wonder if they'd have tazed him that many times if they'd know they were being filmed.

They didn't taze him enough times
They went a little too far
They went way too far
He didn't deserve even one tazering, tazer those bastards as punishement

^ yep. security guards with tasers -- not a good combination.

Giving wannabees offensive weapons is just plain crazy.

And tazering a student who isn't a direct threat should be criminal. Those dirtbags should be in jail.

here's the question. how many people who read ken's ballot took the time to call ucla? i did. that's what we have to do, so pick up the phone and call.

If the guy didn't kill anybody, repeated tasering was outrageous.

The kid definitely could've made things a lot easier on himself and others by just doing what they were telling him to do, but tazing a kid even one time for refusing to stand up is going way too far.

Overreaction in extremis, if you ask me.

i'm glad the "kid" didn't give in. we need more guys like him. resistance is never futile and should be encouraged.

They screwed up and will most likely be penalized. Maybe not jail time, although I'd say the deserve it, but they will definately be fired and probably recieve a lawsuit from the kids family.

This does not, as ken would have us believe, mean that the US police force (the real police) do this to everyone who doesn't whip out their ID cards in time as a matter of national policy.

I think it's a big deal and should be dealt with accordingly, but it isn't a national crises that should make us take up arms against the government.

my understanding is that the kid was walking towards the door (to leave) when one of the cops grabbed him and wouldn't let go of him while the kid started yelling.... He did say "I told you I would leave" after the first tazing.... but was rendered pretty much unable to do anything (even walk) by the repeated tazing.

The cops need to be fired, then arrested and tried, and if found guilty of assault, then they should each get what they dished out.

I heard the cop who did the tazing was fired from Long Beach PD.
