WHY DO CORDED PHONES WITH CALLER ID NEED BATTERIES?

This has been bugging me a lot. I want to buy a standard corded slim line phone with led/lcd caller ID and lighted buttons on the reciever. I cannot find a single one. They do have some corded phones with line powered caller ID but they are not slimline and don't have buttons on the receiver. That makes it possible for corded line powered caller ID phones. Nearly all the slimline ones need batteries which doesn't make sense if they can make the caller id line powered. So why do the maker of the phones create a necessity for batteries to operate the caller ID when they don't need to?

They want me to spend money on batteries
Most people use cordless phones
The maker doesn't care about it

COMMENTS:
I don't want a cordless phone because people will steal it from my room. I want caller ID without the need for batteries. I also want a slimline design with buttons on the receiver due to lack of space. It makes me crazy I cannot find any.

Phone service lines are to low power for the caller ID unit.

Some of the standard size corded phones w/ caller ID are equiped with a rectifier and capacitor voltage doublers to power the caller ID and store entries. Slim Line model are slim line because they don't.

Get a cordless and put a thin steel cable leash on it so it can't leave the house.

All it takes is a couple (short) screws

The technology to transmit power through the air has existed for close to a hundred years. You don't know about it because of some bastich named Edison, may his bones be exhumed by witch doctors.

cordless phones require external power. I want it to run from the telephone line power.
