SENATOR CHUCK HAGEL CALLS FOR A PHASED WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAQ

[+] serious ballot by cranky
ACTIVE Sat Nov 25, 06 - Thu Aug 20, 09

"There will be no victory or defeat for the United States in Iraq. These terms do not reflect the reality of what is going to happen there. The future of Iraq was always going to be determined by the Iraqis — not the Americans.

…The time for more U.S. troops in Iraq has passed. We do not have more troops to send and, even if we did, they would not bring a resolution to Iraq. Militaries are built to fight and win wars, not bind together failing nations.

…The United States must begin planning for a phased troop withdrawal from Iraq." Senator Charles Hagel

Do you agree with Chuck Hagel, that the neocon scheme for U.S. control of Iraq has utterly failed and that the U.S. needs to start a phased withdrawal?

Yes, a phased withdrawal is what is needed
No, we must stay until we are victorious
I am a neocon. Send more troops. Not me, though
I am a neocon. We are wining, but the press is lying
I'm for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. Troops...

Iraqis don't seem to want us there. Iraqi troops would have advantages over American troops in solving their problems.

There's no point in prolonging the inevitable...the only difference is how many more lives will be lost to in a impossible situation that has evolved consistently to avoid the realization the entire venture has been a failure...

I don't know.
We're slowly all realizing that our WAR there has been a failure, but it'll be a double failure now if we don't somehow protect Iragi civilians. I think we should spend whatever we have to now to help them.

There should be an immediate withdrawal of American Troops. This nonsense about cut and run is nothing more than a ploy to keep the American people in sheep mode. The U.S. will never win the War on Terrorism as long as the U.S. Government continues to support Israel (the second most deadly Terrorist group). I support the Troops and others who are putting their well being on the line, and yes, I can do so without supporting the misfit that ordered the invasion of Iraq based on a lie. Our Men, Women and Children are being killed to bring freedom to the Iraqi people, when did we as a nation developed a conscience about the well being of Muslims? Seriously, we constantly cater to Israel, when did we find the time to care about Muslims...Bring the Troops home.

It's the closest thing to sanity from inside the Beltway I've heard in many a moon.
