Instead, make him do a report on how many successful Black quarterbacks in the NFL there have been.

On 9/28/03 Rush Limbaugh on ESPN said the following about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, who is black:

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

Michael Irvin on the Dan Patrick show said: "He (Tony Romo) doesn't look like he's that type of an athlete," Irvin said of Romo. "But he is. He is, man. I don't know if some brother down in that line somewhere, I don't know who saw what or where, his great-great-great-great-grandma ran over in the 'hood or something went down."

Things being equal, MI should be forced to resign. His comment was way over the top when it comes to networks. But this isn't a court of law, this is a court of sponsors. The sponsors of ESPN will ultimately decide the fate of Michael Irvin.

By todays standards that is totally racist. How would people have reacted if he had said that an intelligent black player must have picked up his intelligence from a white man somewhere back along the line?

Just think about the backlash...

That would have been funny if MI did a Michael Richards rant but directed at the white in the room shouting "YOU ARE WHITE, WHITE, WHITE"

But of course nobody would care because minority groups are not expected to "know better" by society.

I find it somewhat funny that espn refuses to comment on michael's firing but will spend two days reporting on another networt's sports reporter firings

I say yes. I'm a big fan of "The U" and I think he deserves to get canned. If a white guy said "Michael Vick attained his football smarts from white ancestry," That person would get launched too! Can't have a double standard, its racist either way, white or black, and I have to say, I hate gay people. - Tim Hardaway.

no, most of the ownership and money is still controlled by my white brothers. Irvin's comments don't have much weight.

why is it offensive if Irvin says Romo has some black in him? Is there same in some nationalities if their ancestry has some color to it?
