WERE NYC POLICE OUT OF LINE SHOOTING A MAN THE DAY BEFORE HIS WEDDING?

[+] serious ballot by jappy
ACTIVE Tue Nov 28, 06 - Sun Aug 23, 09

(11-26) 04:00 PST New York -- Hours before he was to be married, a man leaving his bachelor party at a strip club in Queens that was under police surveillance was shot and killed in a hail of police bullets early Saturday, witnesses and the police said. Two of his friends were wounded, one critically, they said.

Witnesses told of chaos, screams and gunfire near the Kalua club just after 4 a.m. as the victims walked out, got into their car, drove half a block, turned a corner and struck a black unmarked police minivan bearing plainclothes officers. The car then backed up, nearly hitting an undercover officer, and shot forward, slamming again into the police van, the police said.

The police response, witnesses said, was a fusillade of bullets by five of eight officers that riddled the victims' car and slammed through an apartment window near the shooting.

Bell, who was to have been wed Saturday to Nicole Paultre, the mother of his two small daughters, was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The two wounded men, Joseph Guzman, 21, and Trent Benefield, 23, were taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where Guzman was listed in critical condition and Benefield in stable condition.

Relatives of the slain man, Sean Bell, 23, and community leaders, including the Rev. Al Sharpton, demanded an investigation into what some called an overreaction by officers that killed a man on his wedding day.

Do you believe this was an over reaction by the New York City police department, or were their actions justified as a response?

The officers were out of line
The response was completely justified
The officers were protecting themselves but went overboard.

Voted : The officers were protecting themselves but went overboard.
Now, from other news items I have read:

Every person in the car had a criminal record, and this may have contributed to their erratic behavior, running into a police officer, etc.

Some news reports said there may have been a gun in the car, and at least 3 shell casings were found in the car that don't match the service weapons in use with the NYC police.

What really irritates me is the "UNARMED MAN SHOT 50 TIMES" headline, because that's ridiculous, a VEHICLE can be used as a weapon.

I believe the officers were protecting themselves but went overboard.

The fact that it was before this guys wedding isn't really relevent to the case.

I think alot depends on exactly what happened and I doubt we'll ever get the full story.

Likely they had cause to shoot, but went overboard and should have used some restraint.

There were no information provided regarding whether any of the victims has a criminal record. Now with all that said, what difference does it make if they did? There is a young man dead, never to return to his family. I'm sure the Police Officers will (if it goes to trial) will testilie about the events surrounding this murder. The very idea that there are people who continue to believe what all Police Officers allege in these kinds of incidents continues to prove that racial hatred continues to exist in America...All the Police Officers were in civil attire and it is reported that at no time not one of them identified themselves as a Police Officer. Also, it was reported that one of the Police Officers is responsible for firing his weapon 31 times out of 50, lets guess which one of those Police Officers did so, shall we. The point of the matter is that, which reports should we believe, the victims or the murderers, you decide...

When someone makes a threatening move on a LEO, the LEO doesn't have time to think of the most politically correct thing to say or do, his main goal is to protect his life and the lives of the public, it does not matter if the person threatening the cop is about to graduate with his GED.

Actually Truthseeker I have. I was letting my buddy Alfonzo drive my car, and they pulled us over in north Omaha for absolutely nothing. The officer in question tried to say it was because we weaved over the center line.

Then they did a sobriety test on both of us, and we hadn't even been drinking. I asked the one cop "Is this really necessary" and the female cop on the other side of our car replied "We can take you in to do it if that's what you want".

We just shut up and 'danced', then we laughed and made fun of them for the rest of the night while we played video games over at his flat.

We tried to think like we thought those cops were thinking...

"OMG, is that a black man with a white man?? PULL THEM OVER!!!"

"SIR SIR" pulling white man from the car "ARE YOU OKAY??? Was this black man trying to harm you?"

I guess you have to find some humor in it, because it was so ridiculous. Whenever I go with Alfonzo and any of his friends, cops just seem to follow you, especially when you are in white suburbia, it's pretty funny really, I started waving at them one time and "Koolaid" (sorry I don't know his real name, he's Al's buddy) freaked out on me, saying they would pull me over for threatening gestures haha.

According to the 2004 FBI crime report blacks who are only 12% of the US population commited 51% of the homicides.

Six independent witnesses to the killing said Police story is not what happened. There was no 4th man! Never said they were police. Fairy tales from police, no mention of gun from man who had altercation with man killed. Question as to whether officer was hit by car. Story should be Police go Crazy!
