They're still growing aren't they... so I doubt it.

At least there's solid supermarket competition in the UK, between the giants- Tesco, Sainsburries and Asda (walmart).

^ competition means they are more customer focused and care more about their public image

I wish it would have an effect, but I think they've become too powerful. I'm glad San Diego is willing to fight to keep Wal-Mart from building any stores in their city.

I haven't been to a Wal-Mart in over a year now. I'd rather shop at Target, K-Mart, or smaller stores for my stuff.

I'm also proud to say that I've only ate at McDonald's two different times in the past year or so. But that was when I was taken there by other people that wanted to eat there :-)

I dont think it's practical because not everyone's going to do it. The only way it would work is if literally the majority of those who shop there stopped. Hell, I'd do it myself, but to be honest, living in the middle of nowhere, a WalMart 30 miles away is very very handy if something breaks down in the middle of the weekend.

I don't buy their crap though. If it's made in China and I can find another one somewhere else made here, I'll put it back on the shelf. You'll pay more, but you'll have a better product.
by Grumpy_Person on Thu Nov 30, 06 1:51pm [+]

^ you only need a small group of people in a community to dedicate themselves to shopping locally to keep a small shop or two open.

Boycotting Walmart isn't just a negative thing towards Walmart - it's a positive move towards helping other small businuses thrive

HOW WOULD WALMART REACT IF PEOPLE ONLY BOUGHT AMERICAN MADE GOODS FROM WALMART?

Why boycott Wal-Mart? Why not boycott Taco Bell.
by lowerclassbrats on Thu Nov 30, 06 7:50pm [+]

A question for all you good liberals, how many low income households depend on Wal-Mart to supply them with affordable goods? I personally loathe going to Wal-Mart because A) I don't like crappy shit made in China, and B) there's so many people there it feels like one big cluster fuck.
My point is why such vociferous opposition to Wal-Mart? Plenty of companies pay shitty and offer garbage benefits. If you don't like Wal-Mart then don't shop there, but don't belittle others for their patronage.

Walmart being, the largest employer in the US, sets the low wages, which other companies have to follow to remain competative
