WHY ARE SENIOR CITIZENS NOT GIVEN BETTER TREATMENT BY OUR GOVERNMENT?

[+] serious ballot by jappy
ACTIVE Fri Dec 01, 06 - Wed Aug 26, 09

It's a fact that, should we live full and healthy lives, all of us are going to reach the age of senior citizens at some point.

This includes politicians, businessmen, everyone. So why is it that our government seems to stall so often on better rights, medical care, etc, for those older members of our society?

Doesn't it seem like they are actually harming themselves in the long run, I mean, at some point they will be senior citizens themselves, obviously.

*** *** *** THIS BALLOT IS TALKING ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT IN GENERAL, THROUGHOUT THE HISTORY OF NOT ONLY OUR GOVERNMENT, BUT IN THE WORLD IN GENERAL, THIS IS NOT ABOUT REPUBLICANS, DEMOCRATS, OR ANY PARTICULAR POLITICIAN AND IS NOT AN INVITATION TO POINT FINGERS THANK YOU*** *** *** *** ***

COMMENTS:
I believe it has a lot to do with the short term profit driven mindset that society in general seems to have.

Rather than looking at long term implications of choices made today, people seem to turn a blind eye on seniors, choosing instead to live for now and not think about the fact that they themselves will be senior citizens someday.

I see advertisements for cheap drug plans, which seem like shady ways for some asshole to make money off our elderly, and also young people putting their parents into homes that are little more than 'waiting for death' camps.

It makes me a little angry, really, to think about it. As the baby boomer generation gets older, there are going to be a lot more senior citizens, will this help them get more rights? I hope at some point we recognize a need for better rights and services for our elderly, after all, you will be one someday.

I hope they fix these problems soon. Either that, or work till you're eighty.

I agree with you, jappy. It's a "live for today" society, damn the future.
