The Thinking vs. Feeling type concept is a way of analyzing part of an individual's personality. Obviously the categories are *not* mutually exclusive -- everyone is a little bit of both. They do not imply lack of intelligence or compassion. Here are simple, generalized definitions of the two:

- Thinking types:
Persons who make decisions objectively on the basis of logical conclusions. Decisions are made by analyzing and weighing the evidence, considering cause and effect. Individuals are frequently good at problem-solving and fixing things. Telling the truth is often more important than being tactful. Sometimes they miss or don’t value the “people” part of a situation.

- Feeling types:
Persons who prefer to rely on judgements based on personal and social values. Logical decisions are not required so long as the decisions are consistent with their values. Individuals are frequently sympathetic, appreciative, and tactful when dealing with people. Being tactful is often more important than being direct and forthright. Sometimes they miss seeing or communicating the “hard truth” of situations.

^I think emotions are what differentiates reason from logic. Determining whether or not something is reasonable is based partly on logic but also on experience and intuition. Both experience and intuition have some degree of emotion associated with them, whereas logic is a rigid system which doesn't leave much room for whether or not something "feels" right.

Interesting analogy. The consideration of logic vs. reason has apparently been going on for centuries. If you want to, check out this link, (particularly the first section, "Logic and reason"):

I am the thinking type. My boyfriend is the feeling type. We get into misunderstandings alot because we think from different perspectives. Fact is not important to him. How something affects him is more important. It makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes. But he has an ability to understand where people are coming from emotionally that I miss.

He would be good in politics. He can sense the flow and direction of political currents. E

ach type of thinking has it's important place.
