WHY DOES IRAN'S PRESIDENT CONTINUE MAKING PROVOCATIVE STATEMENTS?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday told delegates at an international conference questioning the Holocaust that Israel's days were numbered.

Ahmadinejad, who has sparked international outcry by referring to the killing of six million Jews in World War Two as a "myth" and calling for Israel to be "wiped off the map," launched another verbal attack on the Jewish state.

"Thanks to people's wishes and God's will the trend for the existence of the Zionist regime is downwards and this is what God has promised and what all nations want," he said.

"Just as the Soviet Union was wiped out and today does not exist, so will the Zionist regime soon be wiped out," he added.

Delegates at the Holocaust conference included ultra-Orthodox anti-Israel Jews and European and American writers who argue the Holocaust was either fabricated or exaggerated.

So, basically he's hosting a conference about the Holocaust, a meeting of people who believe the Holocaust never occurred. When he stated Israel's days are numbered, it was met with cheers and applause, which makes one wonder, do they really believe the Holocaust didn't exist, or are they just anti-jew in general and the topic doesn't matter, if it involves Jewish topics they will go against any position that is favorable to the Jewish.

I believe it's pretty ignorant to make statements like this when the United States and much of the western world is already questioning your need for a nuclear weapons program, and weighing how they should react, which could include military action against you.

So why does the Iranian president continue to make inflammatory statements?

Religious belief that he and his country are invincible
Blinding hatred for the Jews
These statements need to be made because they are true
He's a dweeb with a desperate need for attention
he wants america to fire the first shot at iran

"Its main aim is to create an opportunity for thinkers who cannot express their views freely in Europe about the Holocaust"

This statement was made by an Iranian official about this conference, which really makes me laugh considering how 'open' Iranians are allowed to be with their viewpoints, or obviously, the lack thereof.

There are a variety of reasons for his comments. First, he wants Iran to dominate the middle east. He thinks that if he plays to the prejudice of a good number of people, he can place himself (and Iran) as the true leader of that region. Unfortunately, because many in that region are fed hate propaganda about the Jews, he is seen by some as a "man of the people". More importantly though is that he wants to keep pushing the limit to see what he can get away with (sort of like Hitler did). Every time he does something to antagonize the west and others and gets away with it, he is seen as more powerful because he is standing up against the "Great Satan", etc. A leader of a potentially powerful country (with nukes) who makes threatening statements to other countries should be taken at his word. Iran believes if they get nukes, the US and others will be unable or unwilling to act to prevent Iran's actions in that region. Since much of the world's oil comes through the Persian Gulf, this is obviously a grave strategic problem if Iran gets nukes.

wow, two people vote that the statements need to be made but I see they don't have the nuts to explain themselves. Interesting.

His supporters also hold that the people who occupy Palistine, and more specifically Israel, Are of European decent and not indigenous to the land they occupy. They are foriegn insurgents with no legitimate right to Statehood. It is perceived by the indigenous people there that the USA and EU have wrongfully supported the insurgence and denied the indigenous people (Palistinians), who are the rightful Hiers to the land, the right to be recognized as a State and oppressed by the Zionist State of Israel.

Are they right?

Such people like to rationalize that a prejudice is based on fact, and people can rationalize anything without limit.

And a number of people here on B&W like to think such beliefs are true. Aren't people weird?

Most of them like to remain anonymous, for some reason.

Careful Jappy you'll most likely receive a karma attack for daring to question the Hitler of Iran.

Like Israel?

I notice that their leaders like to make lots of inflammatory statements threatening others as well.
by Lovelynice on Tue Dec 12, 06 6:18pm [+]

Yes, just like Israel. And like the UK, France, the US, Russia, China, etc.. The only difference is that the countries currently possessing nukes haven't publicly proposed the total destruction of another country and it's people.
by Grumpy_Person on Tue Dec 12, 06 6:56pm [+]

There is no doubt in my mind that Iran would use a nuclear weapon against Israel, no doubt. And I have no doubt they would do it in a terrorist manner thru the Hamas or some other murderous organization that they support.

What is most disappointing is that there are half a dozen or more other countries in the middle east that would do the same.
