ENGLISH SPEAKERS: ARE YOU PROUD OF YOUR LANGUAGE?

[+] serious ballot by xxxxxxxx
created Mon Dec 18, 06

I generally get the impression that relative to other linugal groups, those who have English as their maternal language DO NOT have much pride in it. I have noticed that the others: French speakers, Spanish, German, Japanese, Madarin, Arabic, Persian, Basque, Catalan, Polish, Thai, Hindi, Korean, Greek, Turkish, etc all seem to much prouder of their languages for being 'poetic, beautiful, and an expressive art form'.

I rarely hear this from Anglophones (English speakers). I rather hear neutral and non-passionate responses that English should be used because it would be practical because it is so widespread. But this is not what this ballot is about.

I want to know: English-speakers, are you proud of your language as being 'poetic, beautiful, and an expressive art form'?

Yes
No
I'm indifferent, it's just what I was born into

No, English is mainly practical because it's such a big language, and because it was spread so far and wide by the British Empire. Spanish has more rhythm, French sounds more sophisticated, and other languages also communicate more than words from the way they sound. But they can't say as much, for the most part, and don't communicate as widely with the exception of Mandarin.

I speak 4 languages, and I don't feel particularily "proud" of any one of them.

Some of the best literature (largely thanks to shakespeare, but he wasn't the only one) is in english.

But beyond that it is by default the global language.

I find the romance languages to be far more poetic.

English is more utilitarian.

I am proud of my culture, but Anglo culture would be the same if we spoke Dutch.
