Voted : No, they are being consistent by promoting animal rights, even where it clashes with Islam
Other than the fact that this was yet another case of minorities dictating their ways to the majority because of political correctness gone mad (such cases do not surprise me anymore), the fact that the RSPCA stood their ground on a sensitive mulitcultural issue did surprise me.
good response Socrates.. even though I am not a vegan I would hope the animals are killed with little to no suffering.
"Muslim communities in the UK should review their slaughter practices." Of animals, or people?
It's a shame they can't do something about hunting "for sport."
They have skylab, fox hunting is now banned in the UK.
There is a lot of nonsense going on about this issue. As they are pretty similar in methods, a properly done kosher or halal slaughter results in instantaneous death. Most experts in the field believe this method is more humane than the factory method used for general consumption. The standards for a slaughter being considered kosher are very high. This means that the person doing the slaughter must be very highly trained and use precision equipment. In the general method it is more like "git her done" instead of a focus on the quality. These complaints pop up from time to time by various animal rights groups and then are debunked. Other animal rights groups believe if a slaughter must be done, kosher or halal is more humane.
Voted : Yes, that was bigotry, and should be condemned
I'm going to vote for bigotry because animal rights groups will pick on kosher and halal slaughter because these methods are used for minority groups. It is easier to go after the small fry and then work your way up to the bigger fish later - which is often the intention of many groups.
Voted : No, they are being consistent by promoting animal rights, even where it clashes with Islam
If it is consistent with their previous stances on animal slaughter then I see nothing wrong. I don't necessarily agree with them, and as long as basic standards are adhered to I don't really care whether they use kosher or halal meat. Although it does seem odd, these meats are usually far more expensive than others, seems like a waste of money to give everyone halal/kosher foods.
