Voted : Yes, it's a bad investment
Glug glug glug glug glug...
Voted : Yes, it's a bad investment
There should be some sort of deadline for a phased withdrawal.
Voted : Yes, it's a bad investment
I also find it fairly ironic that a lot of the money we're borrowing in order to build a democracy in Iraq is coming from the authoritarian, socialist, communist government in China.
Voted : It will help them get the power they went in there to get.
Whenever they've done what they went in there for, they'll withdraw. The 100 billion is probably wisely spent from the perspective of those who want to see the future power of the US. The gov wouldn't spend it unless it could get them something in the longrun. The money wont bring peace and stability... or a 'real' democracy, but it probably will help the US get what it wants. Why else would they spend it?

I won't even mention how many peopel could get decent health care for this money...
That's throwing good money after bad. Let's cut our losses and bring everybody home. (Don't hold your breath, though)
Applerod, that's interesting. Where do you get this imformation?
I have to correct Applerods assertion, China is an authoritarian government, nothing more.
Bush and Congress have already provided more than $500 billion for the two conflicts and worldwide efforts against terrorism, including more than $350 billion for Iraq.
sooth, is it worthwhile to you if in 10 years Iraq is a stable country with an elected representative government?
I stand corrected. Which information?
^Re: info. I don't know much about China. When I thought China I thought "communism". I then went on to wikipedia to see if I was right, which I was not. The article says the government of China is actually a combination of communism, socialism, and authoritarianism. So I took that as gospel and copied it down for accuracy. It was late and I didn't want to follow that up with more research, which I should have. re: U.S. borrowing money from China to pay the national debt. I remember reading a couple articles about this, and just now I've searched and found many more articles declaring that a large amount (roughly half I believe) of our enormous national debt is being held by foreign countries, including China. So it's ironic that we'd be borrowing money from an un-democratic country to pay the national debt which has increased in large part by our expenditures in Iraq, including all of the money devoted to the so-called "founding of democracy".
Until the US has democracy and not a plutocracy, they can hardly be the ones tp preach to others
