COMMENTS:
I find sexual assaults to be the ultimate in henious crimes, that being said however, I believe removing the statute of limitations from such crimes creates an unreasonable situation for the accused because there is never any freedom for someone who is wrongly charged with such a crime. Also, murder rates this because you can never bring someone back once they have been killed. To move on after a sexual assault is a difficult process, but there is no moving on after you have been murdered.
Voted : The statute of limitations should be removed
I think that most people are aware enough of some bad therapists encouraging "lost" memories by now. Any crime should be punished only if there's solid proof of the crime. But a crime with severe long lasting effects shouldn't be forgotten about.
Voted : The statute of limitations should be removed
There is no statute of limitations on rape cases. Not if you rape someone I care about! Someone does that and they will wish they could escape the kind of personal payback they have coming by being locked away safely in prison. You have my word on that!
Voted : The statute of limitations should be removed
jappy, I don't think there ever *should* be any freedom for anyone who commits such a crime. Being raped is the Ultimate Theft. What's taken from you can *never* be retrieved, by any means.
I agree with you Truthseeker, but I also know that there are people out there who would use this change as a vendetta against someone who never did the crime, I've seen it first hand how crying rape can get someone in a world of hurt for nothing.
Inmo rape is just as terrible a crime as murder. A rapist takes away a persons mental freedom for the rest of their life.
Voted : The statute of limitations should be changed, but not removed.
I don't think that people understand that it gives the prosecution a very strong upper hand. While DNA evidence is amazing, it only proves that there was sexual intercourse. It does not state whether it is consensual or not, and in that case, you could potentially convict an innocent man. If the only evidence is DNA, then what evidence can the defense find after 20 years to combat the allegation?
