Stealing is always wrong. If the thief happens to be living beyond his ill-gotten means, so what? Take away the means and he won't be able to steal or spend. This goes beyond direct taxation.

Why don't we talk about people with massive - humongous - credit card debt, people who charge ridiculous purchases and then cry and moan about owing thousands of dollars and expecting to be absolved of their debt ?
