Voted : Blind faith
If there is a god, who designed the earth then let it fly a few thousand years ago... wouldn't that god also have the capacity to leave signs that imply life has gone on for a long time before that time. If that seems unlikely... why? Who are we to judge what gods motives may be? If there is one! Science is completely limeted and always will be. Science will always have its boundries no matter how much we know we will never find any ultimate questions from it. So, Agnostic for me
Voted : Why can't god-botherers keep their belief to themselves?
"only vague evidential material to base their case, yet they are comfortable with their conclusions although we can't even be sure who Jack the ripper was..." Are you talking about the bible and the barely-literate characters that are supposed to have written it??
ramadung - regardless of the religional beliefs of the poster - he makes a valid point. There is a hell of a lot of information to suggest evolution took place.. but is by no means a complete set of evidence. How can you base a belief or non belief on an incomplete set of information. I've got to say though. Does look like it occured (evolution that is), BUT that does not mean there is definatly no God
I see no need to choose between religion and evolution. Evolution is the best theory for how life developed because it explains the most. It solves what would otherwise seem like countless amazing coincidences. So I have faith in evolution until a better explanation comes along. Also, the bible would be an extremely large book if it contained all knowledge.
Mr_S, I'd be amazed if humans had managed to amass a complete history of our evolution in the few hundred years that we've had the scientific and technical ability. But as for the argument that evolution doesn't disprove the existence of god, I assume that we must therefore all believe in the flying spaghetti monster too? And his noodly appendages?
Voted : Who knows
But...they *can't* look at the proof. It would cause the Cosmos to implode!
rmamDUNG - Are you trying to tell me that because evolution occurs - THERE CAN BE NO GOD OF ANY KIND. Now thats blind faith in that there is no God How can you mock those who you think have blind faith in religion, when you have a blind faith in believeing there is no God? By the way - I am not religious. In regards to your first point - I too would be surprised. I dont understand your point. The fact is, the information is not complete. So it does take a certain amount of faith that evolution occured seamlessly. Again - I do actually believe that evolution occured. I just try not to be stupborn about it.
Nonono, I'm not claiming that there's definitely no god. It's not possible to know that. But I think it's far more ludicrous to claim that there *is* a god than that there isn't one, which is why I take the piss out of the god-botherers. Besides which, I think that "believers" are highly conceited, thinking that humans are sooo important in the grand scheme of things... after all, the entire known universe may be part of an atom in a massive squirrel's testicle.
"after all, the entire known universe may be part of an atom in a massive squirrel's testicle." that's too much to think about, oh it hurts my lil mind ;p In science there's hardly really a "missing link" there's just something people won't get their minds around, it's okay for them though!

The only thing that is vague is your understanding of evolution and the fossil record.
^^ ...Or your misunderstanding of same...
