I'd gather a lot of intelligence and find out what the facts are. I think a phased withdrawal of some sort is necessary.
The way things are now, i'd probably be doing the same thing. No, i dont think this is a brilliant plan, but something has got to be done, iraqis cannot be abandoned after all the blunders the Bush administration commited unless you want to the country to turn into another Somalia.
Voted : The libigots will fix it
Very well said, skylab and seamus.
Voted : I would have an additional _____________Troops deployed to Iraq.
"2 TROOPS" (Jenna and Barbara Bush)
Voted : Draft all the neocons and send them to Baghdad

While it would be tempting to drag every single troop out of there right away and bring them home, unfortunately I think if we did that it wouldn't be a good idea. I think we should bring the vast majority of troops home, and get UN support by doing so. Then we can work with the UN and other nations on helping get Iraq a little more stability. It's never going to be perfect there but we can't just leave them in chaos. WITH the UN and not on our own like blowhards, we should help train against the insurgents. But not by giving them our intelligence and stuff because that's backfired on us a million times. Just give them resources (non chemical) and education and work through the UN on maybe even splitting Iraq into different regions for the different groups fighting.

My plan would take more memory than half the servers on the East Coast have, so I'll start with this. If we're supposed to be training Iraqi forces how to maintain internal security, why not task that to the National Guardsmen? Place the burden of logistical support on the various service branches. Just a thought. Place the insanity disqualifier, if needed.
Truthseeker, are you talking about THEIR national guardsmen? I hope you realize the percentage of troops in Iraq that are National Guardsmen is quite high now.
Our troops, our guardsmen I mean.

Acknowledging that the security situation in Iraq requires overwhelming force to overcome, I would call for a reinstitution of the draft in order to train several hundred thousand to a million+ new troops, including women of course. These troops would be tasked with aggressively securing Iraq starting with Baghdad and would be deployed for a period of time determined by the safety on the ground. Once we were able to establish a modicum of peace, this would enable the political process, and real power on all fronts could be ceded to the government. During this time the Iraqi army and police forces would be trained and equipped to take over for us when ready. We would of course need more money for all of this, but we can just borrow it from other countries. Taxes and the domestic U.S. budget could be retooled to supply more funds as well. Flanked by Vice President Cheney and Secretary of State Rice I would explain this plan in a speech to the American people so they can start preparing for the difficulties and sacrifices necessary for our own security in this age of terror.
