UN 'SHOULD TAKE LEAD ON CLIMATE'

[+] serious ballot by herzog
created Tue Jan 16, 07

The top UN official on climate change says the failure of world leaders to agree on global warming means it is time for the UN to take the lead.

Yvo de Boer, head of the UN Climate Secretariat, wants a summit of world leaders to talk about what happens when the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.

Despite rising sea levels, there is no agreement on how to deal with global warming's long-term threat.

Should the UN focus on this, or should they stick to the responsibilities listed in their founding charter which they are currently ignoring?

They should stick with their charter and try to perform their basic purpose
They should give up on trying to prevent genocide and other lost causes and go with CO2 emissions
Can't they do both?
no one should take a lead on the environment

Ideally they should curl up in a corner and die.

But as long as they're around, and using our troops and money I'd like them to concentrate on ending genocide, slavery, and other human rights violations, occasionally venturing in to health issues.

Herzog, you make the UN sound like George W. Bush

Fiddle: No, they can't do both. They can't do one, I doubt doubling their workload will help.

Ask the sudanese if they can prevent genocide.

Although their responsibilities in the charter should come first.

I know one thing. If Al Gore runs for President again, I'll be voting for him.

I wonder, if the janjaweed or various other groups committing genocide around the world decide to speed up the process and copy the nazis final solution, will the UN send in inspectors to make sure the smoke being produced by the incinerators is not emitting too much C02? Because you, that stuff can like kill people, which is bad.
