COMMENTS:
turn on the vacuum cleaner when she misbehaves. our dog slinks for cover ( i think it has something to do with me trying to vaccum the shedding hair off of her when we first got her.... how was i to know it would traumatize her for life???)
LMAO, poor dog.
But thats not a bad idea, they dont like the vacuum, they scoot off up the stairs when I switch it on.

Maybe your cat is angry at you for not giving her enough attention?
Another thought is that maybe kitty isn't feeling well. You could always take her to the vet to make sure.
It's a cat's way of saying it looves you.
Voted : Water gun
Keep a water gun filled and at arms reach. Tell her "no" loudly and then give her a good squirt when she's about to climb on the fireplace. That's how I taught mine to stay off the kitchen counter. Pretty soon you should be able to tell her "no" in just about any circumstance and she'll stop what she's doing so she wont get squirted.
The cat wants your attention. My cat will deliberately lay on my work or my book or anything I'm preoccupied with. Once, he even sprayed on my lady friends leg to get my attention. (He never did that again, trust me). I often relate to parents whos kids are getting into trouble while we're visiting, that *Bad attention is better then no attention at all*. The kids feel left out an do whatever it takes to get attention, no matter how inappropriate. Has something truamatic recently occurred that maybe triggered this? It may sound strange but it seems that he/she is a little insecure these days.
How old is your cat? I'm thinking there might be something wrong with her. It can be something as simple as a rotten tooth bothering her, or it could also be something more serious like a urinary tract infection. You should probably take her to the vet and have her checked out.
Voted : Water gun
I've used the technique Grumpy describes for years. Also, we find that just getting out the vacuum cleaner does the trick -- no need to even turn it on.

I just remembered something else. One of our cats likes to get in the way when my husband is doing paperwork. He keeps a cordless hand-vac on his desk and turns it on whenever said cat starts to bother him. A hair dryer would work the same way, I would imagine.

My Lovely Rita (Meter Maid) is the boss around here.
First of all, thank you for all your comments, its really appreciated. I shall try some of the options pointed out and see how it goes, I wanted to find a way to stop her behaviour without having to give in and give her the attention she wanted and I think the sugestions with the water gun and vacuum may do just that. She has always been a fuss pot, and she gets lots of cuddles but the more she gets the more she wants, I cant even take a shower without her wanting to climb in with me lol. I will keep you posted on how this goes, thanks again for all your help. *hugs*
A late vote for the water gun. We have a squirt bottle at the ready for when our cats climb on the dining room table, and it works, for the most part. It's reached the point where all we have to do is show them the bottle, and they get down.
Good idea minni. I think I may have gone overboard last night with that whole health issue thing. My cat always tried to get the attention of people by knocking things over constantly and pissing in certain areas of the house when she had her health problems.

stroke her, make her PURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
MK, thats ok, I value your input, after all, all area's need to be explored when your dealing with an animal that cant tell you what she really wants, so thanks for your thoughts. *hug*
LMOA, ladys, who, me or the cat ??
Voted : what a naughty puss
All of the thoughts I'm having on this would be censored.
You're welcome minni.
Voted : A spray water bottle
Spritz the cat with some water, that might work!
