WHY DO YOU CARE?

[+] serious ballot by FiddleFaddleOnLSD
ACTIVE Sun Jan 21, 07 - Mon Aug 11, 08

I have a couple of users that seem to be a bit obsessed with me. One at least to the extent of talking about me on another web site. Apparently I am the alias of at least a dozen users, I am black, white, male, female, Canadian, American, French, Russian, English, Mexican, Jewish, Christian, disabled, Native American, gay, straight, conservative, liberal, and a few dozen more. Apparently, a few of these people have sifted through my ballots as well.

My point is not which of those I am, but why anyone should give a rat's ass. Does my status in any grouping of people somehow invalidate or lessen my opinions or even my worth as a human being?

"Does my status in any grouping of people somehow invalidate or lessen my opinions or even my worth as a human being?"

Of course not. Some people are just curious. Did you ever give yourself contradicting identities on ballots in the past? If so, they have good reason to be.

I will have to say this...There are those on this site who make a big deal whether you are Black, Gay, Liberal and yes a NeoCON...There are race baiters on this site (just a couple) that seeks to demean others because of the color of their skin and that as far as I am concern is pathetic...

Now, to answer the ballot question, NO, it should not matter which of those you are, who cares? I don't, as I don't care what others think of me and mine...However, for those who do care, as NUCK so eloquently put it, you need to drink a tall glass of grow the F*ck up!!!

Excellent ballot question by the way LSD...

Just as an observer, I will relate my perception. I don't presume to speak for anyone, this is just what I perceive.

I believe it comes down to users who question your credibility on certain issues, for those peticular users.
I get the impression that some people belive from time to time, you play the devils advocate with some touchy issues and they want to know if you're being sincere, or if you're just trashing their ballot/comment/opinion....

Also, noting support of other users of your claim/disposition, similarities in literary style, comments and attitudes, raises suspicion you might be using multiple screen names to give appearences of a large peer following.

I am not one of these people FFLSD. I have seen how you interact on this site, and though I am a new user, I find you have an honest approach, you're passionate about some issues, you always give me straight answers and, when merited, constructive criticism in a positive atmosphere. That's just my perception my friend.
by passiveson on Sun Jan 21, 07 8:24pm [+]

Thanks BBC. That is one of the points I am trying to make. It shouldn't matter. Accept people without having to pigeonhole them and whatever related bias that brings.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Sun Jan 21, 07 8:26pm [+]

passive. I probably confuse some users because I do not get my marching orders from a "liberal" or "conservative" website. I take in info from all sides. I always find it odd when people think I am a conservative because I voted a straight democratic ticket last election and have met personally with more democratic officeholders than most of the users on this site combined. I don't like certain democrats but I don't like a lot more republicans. I'm not a leftist but a liberal/moderate. People think they are the same. They are not. This is probably what gets people confused. I also don't like pointless bashing. I try to give people, even Bush credit for something. That hardly means I support him. I don't.

I try not to care too much about what people think, unless they seem dangerous. If that happens ... 093

In principle it shouldnt matter one iota, and in most cases it doesnt.

Howvever, peoples opnions tend to be shaped by their own experiences. Hence, someone who is gay is more likely to have received homophobic abuse than someone who isnt gay (quite obviously), and would naturally have a tendency to more vehemently oppose any form of homophobia on this site, or perhaps even be a bit touchy about subjects that are borderline homophobic.

Now, the fact that this passion is a result of real life experiences shouldnt necessarily matter, unless they are taken to the point of letting ones own experiences warp ones ability to keep an open mind on certain issues, without letting ones own personal bias decide ones opnion before the debate has even begun!

Naturally therefore, when ones user seems to regularly argue the interests of one particular group/agenda, people become curious as to whether something in that persons real life physical/mental makeup, perhaps as a result of past experiences, is particularly shaping their opnions.

Its quite natural, until the point where they seem to have become obsessed and talk about you on other sites etc, then its a bit worrying.

Why is it that people seem so hopelessly naive when answering questions on this site? Is it that they are in fear of giving the unpopular answer and being chastised? Or can people genuinly not think between the lines?

We are animals people, and until we can accept that and start analysing our behaviour with a degree of objectivity, these ballots are pointless.

This ballot brings up an interesting question, the answer to which has far reaching implications for the way human beigns interact both online and offline, and yet all I have heard before are a number of bullshit, idelaistic, politically correct "by the book" answers, that dont spark any interesting debate on the subject whatsoever.

Seriously weak.

and Fiddle, when asking questions like this, to ask

"Does my status in any grouping of people somehow invalidate or lessen my opinions or even my worth as a human being?"

To which people are obviously going to answer NO, makes it sound like you need some reassurance on the matter, rather than being genuinly interested in having a debate on the matter. You are asking a question to which you already know the answer, and know how others will answer. Why?

Note that I looked between the lines when answering your question, ignoring the moral pitfall you provided in the last paragraph of your ballot description, to get to the INTERESTING questions that lay beneath.

"Does my status in any grouping of people somehow invalidate or lessen my opinions or even my worth as a human being?"

Since you have, in the past, aligned yourself closely with racist misogynist bigots, who obsessively demean and degrade members of other races, genders, and ethnic groups, it strikes me as audacious that you would ask that question. If your cronies believe that, as a foundation principle of their belief system, then why should you upset that your critics believe that of you?

*Points to Nuck* yup, sums it up.

Curiosity... it drives some people ya know. The most intelligent folk are often the most curious. Good trait to install I think.

Thanks to everyone but cranky. The debate is constructive. I have a hard time understanding Mr. Cranky and his opinions numerous time though so this isn't unusual.

There are some crazy people out there.

Especially those who most often brag about their status as a tolerant, minority loving liberal. In my experience they have all be closet racists and have all obsessed over race far too much.

Ignore this joker.
by herzog on Mon Jan 22, 07 3:40pm [+]

^So, B&W's resident super-racist comes on with another of his totally bogus posts. Apparently, it's a common tactic of rightwing bigots, like herzog, to try and cover their racism by accusing people who aren't racists of being racists. It's all part of his idiotic role playing, but other than his close cadre of Kool-Aid drinkers, I'm not sure it's fooling that many people.
