I think they should have to have "I AM A CHILD MOLESTER" tattooed on their forehead so people can identify them, and keep their kids away from them.

CHILDREN'S RIGHTS FIRST, Human Rights second.

The only problem with this is the fact that lawmakers love to spread the influence of laws designed to 'protect children' beyond what should be considered reasonable.

Take a 19 year old who dates a 15 year old. Is this really child molestation? You realize this could be a senior in high school dating a sophomore in high school. I really don't know how you consider it child molestation at all, and even statutory rape is a stretch, but that particular term depends upon the circumstances. However, may states do not feel that way and extend the 'notification laws' that are written for the protection of children to include people like that, a typically innocent teenager who dated someone who most would believe is typically in his/her age range, and instead the judicial system oversteps it's bounds and forces this person to register as a sex offender and is branded, sometimes even having to notify local government and not allowed to live within 400 meters or even a half mile of schools. This is a true case, a guy in our military unit has been trying for 5 years to get his name removed from a sex offenders list because of this exact scenario, he's stuck on the list for TEN years due to an overzealous prosecuter and the girl's parents going after him, he has NO criminal record other than this and at least two dozen members of our unit have written him letters of commendation and support, especially following his year long service in Iraq where he was awarded a bronze medal for meritorious service. Yet it's all been futile thus far, astoundingly.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. At first glance, when you think about the sickos, and why this would be a good idea, you think of the 45 year old handyman who kidnaps a 10 year old girl, brutally rapes and kills her, then dumps her body in some ravine. But before painting everyone with a broad brush stroke, I hope you step back and realize that the percentage of people who are branded as child molesters is significantly higher than it should be. Thank your local lawmakers for that.

It's against US constitution protection and perhaps someone might also think you should be branded for any reason. It's a death sentance. So, if you brand them, what will be the next exception to the constitution?
by passiveson on Sun Jan 28, 07 12:52am [+]

Pretty much what Jappy said. There's a big difference between the 'crime' of a 20 year old having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend and some 50 or 60 year old perv who's raped numerous ones. Unfortunately, the law looks at them the same way when tagging them with the term "sex offender".

Of course having said that and having almost been the vicitm of one of these perverts one time, I just really can't say that some don't deserve to be marked for life. Some of these people are literally monsters in human form who serve no good purpose in society.

But, wouldn't that be 'torture' ?
by Black_Lava on Sun Jan 28, 07 9:42am [+]

Yeah, so it's out of the question and it'll never be done.

But ya gotta admit it'd be handy to be able to identify these creeps if they're not going to keep 'em in jail where they belong.

That's a nice thought. Can I do the tattooing?
by Truthseeker013 on Sun Jan 28, 07 1:50pm [+]

jappy, here in Jawja, they've introduced a bill that would make such relationships legal if the two parties are no more than four years separated in age.

The worst offenders (those who repeatedly molest children where the molesting is involuntary by ANY standard) should be in jail for life, but tatooed just in case they escape.

They should be surgically castrated. Then we wouldn't have to worry about them. Note: this procedure would be only for the most serious offenders. The "monsters" so to speak.
by jj60sn on Mon Jan 29, 07 4:02am [+]

So you assume only men molest children, JJ60sn? Women do it to, remember those two lady teachers?
by passiveson on Mon Jan 29, 07 4:26pm [+]

And castration is not a cure all. For many rapists, it's not entirely about sex, it's about power and domination. That desire is still going to be there.

I don't think frig was talking about 15-18 year olds, i think he meant along the lines of children and adults. Pre-puberty children.

If it's a person of such and such age, we'll say 30 year old man with a 9 year old boy or girl than he should be marked for life. He ruined that childs life so YEAH, mark his ass for life!
