But "JOY" comes from within.....
I think the terms you are really looking for are "joy" and "joyful". That means the person has an inner delight that stays on and is expressed even in bad times. "Happy" and "happiness" come from the work "happen" and these words simply mean the person is temporarily pleased that something "happened" their way.
So "happiness" really does come from outside things..."joy" comes from within.

This is true. Happy means your reaction when favorable things HAPPEN. The word happy comes from happen. The rich and satisfied feeing that comes from within you is not happiness; it is JOY.
We should be concentrating on JOY, which is abiding, and not happiness, which is situational.
