Sgt. Paul E. Cortez, was sentenced to 100 years in prison but will be eligible for parole in 10 years under the terms of his plea agreement in which he admitted conspiring with three other US soldiers to rape a fourteen year old Iraqi girl in March 2006. The girl was raped by Cortez and the other of the soldiers before she, her parents and her younger sister were killed by one of the US soldiers to cover up the crime. Spc. James Barker plead guilty in November to rape and murder and was sentenced to 90 years in jail.
