Voted : 5000 is more than enough, this is a disturbing trend
Even at the low estimate of 5000, (only about 5% are actually reported according to human rights groups), this is far too many. Woman shouldn't be treated this way the the way their culture and legal system defends such murderers is both damning and barbaric.

I cannot wait to hear what the 'League of Extraodinarily Stupid Gentlemen' has to say about this. I am of course referring to Crank, DUNG and BBCakes.

Good point. Watch certain people get on your case and call you a racist for bringing this up. I would think they would be appalled at the human rights tragedy, but apparently I am wrong. It appears to be more important to be politically correct.

It is a trend, but I wouldn't judge all the people of Pakistan by the actions of these evil bastards, for the same reasons I gave in your last ballot that covered this issue Herzog. There is also the protest suicide's that women feel the need to do in certain Islamic nations. They will pour petrol over their bodies and then set themselves alight. It is supposed to be a statement; to die so horrifically means you life was worse than your death. There have been hundreds of cases of this happening in the past few years. You cannot condone the way women are treated in these nations, as its utterly deplorable, but I think you will find that most of these incidents occur in small backwater communities, and that the vast majority of Pakistani's would also believe the actions of their compatriots to be disgusting, and unforgivable. If the majority of these cases go unreported, then that means that Pakistan needs to sort out its judicial system, as this behaviour cannot continue.
A truly despicable practice, and should be stamped out. Violence against women has become endemic all over the world, and spousal abuse is the hidden 'shame' that millions of women live with for years. Those who are responsible for the abuse and murder of women, should be given the harshest penalties.
another in a series of hundreds of ballots, attacking the "enemies of Israel" I wouldn't drag out the word "slavery", that a fertile ground.

"another in a series of hundreds of ballots, attacking the "enemies of Israel"" Pakistan is hardly an enemy of Israel, and that has nothing to do with it. But subtlety attacking me for being a jew (which I'm not) sure beats responding to the horrific nature of this crime and thus admitting that perhaps some cultures/nations other than our own may have faults. But all I am doing is criticizing a well tolerated and defended practice (simply look at your own defense of this) that constitutes a clear human rights violation. Why do you believe it's ok to treat women like this? Imagine if this were your sister, would you be so accepting then?

It indicates a need for reform in that country. And not just political reform, but also a reform in the attitudes of the people as well.
LCD- Pakistan is not an enemy of Israel. Not at all.
But anyway, LCD you didn't answer the question. How many women need to be hacked to death for trivial offenses before you are somewhat concerned at their plight?
herzog, I never said you were a Jew. though with your name, you have expressed the fondness for the Jewish culture, which is all good too. You have, through countless ballots, launched attacks against the muslim culture, using the exact same boring tactic. If I did the same against the Israeli, I would be called an anti-semite. If I did that against the blacks, irish, koreans, hondurans, japanese, etc. I would be considered a racist with a half assed agenda. so what are you?

by the way herzog, I would not have even responded to this ballot if it wasn't for the last sentence, specifically "within this culture?"

"herzog, I never said you were a Jew. " You've implied it on numerous occasions. Odd that you'd consider that an insult. "you have expressed the fondness for the Jewish culture" Gasp! "You have, through countless ballots, launched attacks against the muslim culture, using the exact same boring tactic" Aka: facts, imperical evidence, reality. "If I did the same against the Israeli, I would be called an anti-semite. " If you presented facts that made Israel look bad that didn't come from jihadagainstisrael.com then you would not. In fact israel comes under fire around here far more often than islam, and the users who routinely attack israel recieve little if any criticism, even if their attacks are unwarranted. "If I did that against the blacks, irish, koreans, hondurans, japanese, etc. I would be considered a racist with a half assed agenda." Sadly yes, if you presented unbiased facts that made individuals who happened to be black, hispanic, etc look bad you would be denounced as a racist. I oppose this PC culture and am working to correct it. You see, I hold all people to the same standards, and when they don't meet those standards I hold them accountable. I don't make excuses for them based on their culture, socio-economic status, race, religion, etc. One standard for all people. Of course to many of those indoctrinated with the politically correct "only whites are ever to blame for anything, all minorities are victims" mentality this would falsely appear to be racism. "by the way herzog, I would not have even responded to this ballot if it wasn't for the last sentence, specifically "within this culture?" by the way herzog, I would not have even responded to this ballot if it wasn't for the last sentence, specifically "within this culture?" " So you don't see a trend within this culture? This sort of thing is just as common in the US as it is in pakistan, or france, or china? There is absolutely no correlation between instances of honor killings and culture/religion/nationality? The numbers don't support your argument on that.
I find the argument that Jews get worse press on this site than muslims risible. There is plenty of evidence of Israeli terror, and not from pro-Islam sources, but never let it be said Herzog would ever let the truth get in the way of a good rant
"I find the argument that Jews get worse press on this site than muslims risible." Which users have the nerve to criticize the actions of muslims and face the constant criticism and karmic attacks for it? Very few. But you make a ballot about how evil jews are few people will criticize you. " There is plenty of evidence of Israeli terror, and not from pro-Islam sources" Then perhaps someone will finally post examples of Israeli Rabbis, funded by the state, sending jews off to die for their cause of killing all non-jews, while the majority of the jewish population sits idle or cheers them on. But I keep abreast of the news pretty well and I've never heard of such a thing. And with all the criticism and hatred directed towards israel you'd think something like that would receive alot of attention. But if you can find an example of this then feel free to post it. Remember, it has to be state supported terrorism that is either condoned or tolerated by the majority of jews worldwide to be comparable. Ready, set, go!
