That's just *wrong*. You can't let a kid get that danged big.
^ My 6 year old is just over 50 lbs, give or take a few. He eats a lot sometimes (during growth spurts). I wonder what this woman was giving her son to eat? I remember Maury Povich having shows on obese 3 year olds... that was sum crazy stuff lol.

What Truth said allowing you're kid to get that fat is child abuse.

Yes, same as corrupt said. She's slowly killing her child. It's no different than someone wacking their child on the head a few times every day. It will eventually kill them. "..the family had repeatedly failed to attend appointments with nurses, nutritionists and social workers." If she'd try a little harder in letting people help her, perhaps something could be done about the child sneaking off and eating himself to death. There's no excuse for her not attending those appointments. If for some reason she cannot make them (work, lack of transportation, etc..) all she has to do is let them know and they can pay her a home visit.

Absolutely.

A little overweight, no. Morbidly obese to the point where they are suffering serious life threatening conditions? Perhaps, if they refuse to mend the situation in a reasonable manner, but I don't like the idea of taking peoples kids away in general, so they'd better make damned sure before they take anyone away.
My instinct says yes, for the health of the child. However, this is on the edge of a very slippery slope indeed. Great caution is required.

In this case, 218 lbs at 8 is too much. Way too much.

A child should never be taken from its parents unless it is being pysically ill treated, far from that this child is quite obviously loved, social services should be working closely with the family to help to educate this child and his parents on the dangers of obesety. Ive seen the permanent psycological damage that is caused when a child is taken away from a parent
