There are reports of the National Guard having equipment shortages and in some areas less than desirable manpower due to the war efforts overseas. I personally always viewed the National Guard as a "Homeland" based military (sometimes para military) force, a bulwark against invasions, natural catastrophes, civil emergencies, etc.. but with a Commander-in-chief with a "fight them over there mentality" willing to cannibalize homebased forces is this opening the door for domestic problems which may not be unanswerable due to so many deployed members of this force overseas ? Is it time to pass out the assault rifles and form a home based force that actually stays "home" ? Is this wise planning ?
